The 11th annual international Gender Census 2024 is now open until at least 13th June 2024!

It's for anyone whose gender (or lack thereof) isn't described by the M/F binary. It's short and easy, and results are useful in academia, business and self-advocacy.

We're seeking a host for LavLang31 next year as the planned host has sadly had to pull out. Could it be you? As a previous host of this fabulous conference, I can vouch for what an enriching experience it is - and myself and many others can offer plenty of support. Get in touch if you're interested!

Response options for the least-refused Q:

Man
Woman
Non-binary
Indigenous or cultural minority identity (e.g. two-spirit)
Prefer not to say
Other, please specify

Omit the non-binary options, and people refuse.

Which made me think, if I use this to craft survey instruments, I better cite it.

But also, citations are such a shallow way to measure impact.

Very excited to announce we have a new paper out in Linguistics Vanguard investigating exactly that! (Out now! Open Access!)

Prepping a module in which my (L2 English) students will be reflecting on manoevring prescriptivism/native speakerism in academia. I've definitely seen linguistic journals which make explicit that submissions do not have to be written specifcally in "native" English but now can't find them anymore
