What I've been noticing lately in convos with students is that they *despise* the AI-slopification of everything as much or even more than I do. And yet our universities & their admin seem to believe that students for some reason want it integrated into everything. THEY DON'T.
“To be sat there with this material in front of you that is just really not worth anyone’s time, when you could be spending that time actually engaging with something worthwhile, is really frustrating,” he said.

Last night I got to see Derek Jarman’s Blue at the cinema. “The world is dying, and we do not notice it,” he said in 1993, as he faced his own death and still kept looking for beauty. “Love is life that lasts forever.”

Completely 🦇🦇 that in two months this has gone from red pencil to actual book with French flaps! Happy / stupidly emotional launch day to the little book that for the longest time couldn't & then could.

May that be a shift to remember for us all. BAD LANGUAGE, Peninsula Press, out now.

Staggering harm is being done to #language learning in Higher Ed. No oversight or strategic thinking, with cold spots now present. Petitions alone this week in response to closures:

The ability to understand the significance or poetry of something without behaving as if it is literally true, whether that thing is an ancient myth or modern literary character or an AI chatbot, is *incredibly important* to functioning in contemporary society and much rarer than we'd like to think.

Dutch elections are always so unsatisfying. I never understand if we’re relieved or if we’re just screwed in another combination of ways. Can someone let me know before the cabinet falls again?

Kim Hyesoon has a new book, which has the beautiful title Synchronized Sea Anemone, and it is funny and strange and makes me see again the shifting limits of our (more than human) bodies and how that shapes the form of our living. I got to translate the title poem for the Korean publication. 🪼🩵🪸
