On day 8 of our Administration, @governor.ny.gov and I announced the beginning of universal childcare in NYC. No longer will New Yorkers be forced to choose between starting a family and continuing to live in the city they love. This only happened because of you.

“I’m a proud Muslim, coloured boy from Pakistan who was told that he would never play for the Australian cricket team. Look at me now. And you can do the same.”

There’s a reason the likes of Paul Kelly wrote songs about Usman. What a legend.

Australian 39-year-old veteran will bat in fifth Ashes Test in Sydney after an impressive career of 87 Tests, scoring 6,206 runs to date

If you search my music on Spotify, you'll now find nothing.
News from me: after years of not being able to have my soundtrack for Untitled Goose Game on Bandcamp - it's now on @bandcamp.com.

I'm also in a slow process of having my music (including Goose Game) removed from Spotify, for their treatment of artists, their politics, and their embrace of AI.

After almost eleven years, today is effectively my last day at Swinburne. I’m on leave for some time until Feb, when I start as Professor of Media at Monash.

A friend no longer on this platform some time ago said that one day we'll wake up and google will have shut down google scholar with absolutely no notice, and i really can't help but feel he's very right
Grading and googling hallucinated citations, as one does nowadays, and now that LLMs have been around for a while, I've discovered new horrors: hallucinated journals are now appearing in Google Scholar with dozens of citations bc so many people are citing these fake things

Discord, who recently leaked a heap of personal data in a security breach, wants my personal data to let me access a channel I created in a server I created. Thank you, Australian government.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Emeritus Professor Graeme Turner AO FAHA FQA — one of Australia’s most influential humanities scholars and a towering figure in the Academy’s history. humanities.org.au/our-communit...

Just want to say that Emily who I am absurdly lucky to be married to has done amazing things and I am so glad and proud that against all reasonable odds she has been funded for a DECRA
So happy, and a bit overwhelmed, to find out my DECRA project, 'Social, ethical and regulatory challenges in the social media porn industry', has been awarded. What an immense privilege to have the next three years to dedicate to research!

Also: anyone who wants to use this as a chance to wallow in doom and despair can fuck right off - every tonne of CO2 matters, every fraction of a degree we prevent saves lives and ecosystems. We need to fight like HELL to save what we can, grieve what we can’t, and lock up those responsible.

As the single most important news story this year, I can't wait to see the detailed and central coverage this will get in every media outlet we have
‘Change course now’: humanity has missed 1.5C climate target, says UN head
Exclusive: ‘Devastating consequences’ now inevitable but emissions cuts still vital, says António Guterres in sole interview before Cop30

The dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated the same as any other New Yorker.

And yet, for too long, we have been told to ask for less than that, and endure hatred and bigotry in the shadows.

No more.

Had just a great time with the TSO in Hobart last night. Thanks so much for coming along Jason (and anyone else who was there too)!
So wonderful to see your friend and mine @dangolding.com in his element being a HUGE NERD about Hans Zimmer alongside the TSO, for Art of the Score

If you’re a mainstream thinker about technology in Australia right now you’re holding two ideas in your head: one technology, speculative and futuristic, is inevitable and inescapable and impossible to resist (AI); and another, already here and dominant, must be restricted (social media)
