I have done almost zero promo/sharing of the work I've done this year, so let's correct that with a thread of stuff I've written, worked on, helped with, etc.

I started the year with a post about European gaming emissions & what we can do about them.

NEW: Coal-fired power generation fell in both China and India in 2025, for the first time since 1973. The drop came after record clean energy additions in both countries, and was the first time that clean energy was a major driver of falling coal power use.

semi-regular reminder that ICE was only created in 2003

when you are asked to imagine a world without ICE, you're basically being asked to remember where you were when Lilo & Stitch came out

Weird and funny story about (probably?) tortured translations in published papers.
🧪 Here's a science mystery to start the year.

Why are species names for fish and plants appearing in the scientific literature in papers about firefighter injuries, hearing loss and heart attack?

Is it AI? Translation tools? Something else?

Elon Musk's X is currently mass-producing deepfake images of women and children.

The federal government — which says it's "committed to restricting access to nudify tools" — has no plans to stop its 7 figure X annual advertising spend or using it as a major comms platform
The Australian government is spending millions supporting Elon Musk's deepfake porn factory, X
A spokesperson for the prime minister says the government is committed to protecting Australians from online harms. Tell that to the Australian victims of X-produced image-based abuse.

With David Rosen's death, bad information about Sega as a company is starting to re-emerge across the internet.

I will try to give a very condensed version of the Sega corporate shenanigans here as to clear some of the air. 🧵

What’s the point of writers’ festivals — or, for that matter, writers — if they can’t discuss issues that matter? Australian arts administrators would rather destroy the whole sector than allow Palestinians to speak about genocide. It’s beyond shameful.

You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today.

This could be you.

Once again, the first thing that comes to mind is that is the same mo under Israeli occupation in Palestine.

Shoot, block ambulances until the victim bleeds out, deny wrong doing. Repeat because no one will stop you.
"A doctor at the scene attempted to help the woman who was shot, but was kept away by federal agents. When an ambulance finally arrived, it was blocked from reaching her by law-enforcement vehicles, and paramedics had to reach her on foot. The woman has died." www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
