It's cool that every few years in Aus we're just going to be doing this again. Guess no one has any new ideas about how to support a creative industry in this country that isn't "make another co-working space"

My takeaway from this chart, which shows CO2 emissions *growth* even in the AI base case by 2030 (let alone the Lift-Off high take-up scenario) is that data centres are making it harder to achieve the reductions we need. Being a smaller increase than others is no comfort when it all has to go down.

"...as households' perceived probability of attaining homeownership falls, they systematically shift their behavior: they consume more relative to their wealth, reduce work effort, and take on riskier investments."

This new paper seems very pertinent

Rewiring Australia reckons the cheaper home batteries program has installed the equiv. of "one of the ten biggest gas power stations in the country."

Sick to see the power of distributed networks play out like this. Someone could write a book on this in the vein of the early internet stuff.

Here’s a cool flyover though! This is neat - but still doesn’t convey the climbs very well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Rode too far - again! Too many hills! Too steep! It’s also missing about 18 kms in the middle for battery/charging reasons

$55b of extra demand that can be used on leveraged 30 year mortgages… don’t tell me that ends up being a drop in the ocean

and uhhh... the main risk areas, and the level of risk that each will be exposed to in Australia in the coming decades, has lots of impacts in the "severe" risk category even by 2050. But don't worry, there'll still be 20 more years of LNG exports to look forward to!

I'm reading it. At first I was like "why on earth would the Govt sit on this report? It's such a measured and evidence-backed report! And then I got to this bit and uhhh yeah maybe the government of new coal and gas mines might want to bury this one.

Fixed a madly infuriating spoke tension issue on my bike today and it’s back to riding like a million bucks. Maybe better than new, even.

Fixing your own shit rules. Fixing bikes rules.
