One of my new arguments against AI is that even if it was a good tool, human beings are not in a place to be able to use it without harm. We don't live in ideal world where this benefits mankind. We live in this world where it benefits the rich and fucks the rest of us.
OBVIOUSLY do not use AI, at all. AT ALL, for anything. I don’t wanna hear about the theoretical good version, it’s not what they’re pushing on us. The absolute worst people in the world have gone all in on this shit, and it needs to be starved out as much as possible. AI: not even once!
Sec. Hegseth rolled out the U.S. military’s new AI platform, GenAi.Mil, with a link to an empty website. trib.al/tbCJAkT

Predictably, the platform can’t actually be accessed from external networks, but the wonky rollout triggered eyerolls across the internet.

I survived over two years of a genocide.
I lost everything — my home, my family, my entire life.
I’ve witnessed horrors no human should ever see.
Today, I’m still alive, trying to hold on with my family

Normally I agree with the librarian at Alexandria who famously said “big book, big evil” but this is a great idea.
Today I wanted to share my pleasure reading pile (as opposed to research reading). I've made a decision to read or reread only big, long books for awhile to rewire my brain to combat the fragmentation of recent months. This corresponds to rethinking how I approach these books. 1/2

I just saw that Ireland made its basic income for artists permanent and I have never been so jealous.

What must it be like to live in a country that actually values the arts?

I'm happy for all Irish artists and hope maybe this kind of thing will expand elsewhere.

I have a plan. It is an audacious one but hear me out. What if I made a beef and barley stew but instead of just dump and go, I slow cooked some soup bones and dried mushrooms over night, maybe with some aromatics, before starting the stew proper?

I have dried “flower” shiitakes in the freezer…

It’s a pity I never got around to writing that story I was going to call Give Us Back Our Fucking Prophets (about how Palestinian folklore is full of the spirits of prophets having mortal lovers and partners). I really like the concept but who would publish it?

I don’t usually think that being Palestinian cost me a job or an opportunity somewhere. I don’t know why, given the evidence that this happens all the time. That said, I don’t know how to talk about this without sounding weird. But I think this just happened to me, and I trust my vibe checks.

He knows exactly what he's doing and declaring: 'Acquiring and maintaing wealth is my guiding moral priciple. If it doesn't directly impact me or my ability to make money I don't care.'

Lots of people (many of them your faves) feel the same and emulate it even though they can't afford it.
I see this sort of proud posturing a lot and it's really a wonderful way to loudly demonstrate to everyone you have absolutely no idea what's going on

This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.

I’ve seen a lot of folks pivot from anti Palestinian racism to general Islamophobia. I think it’s deliberate, an extension of their previous grift but trying to obscure the genocide in Palestine by drawing the focus to Europe.

They deny genocide with such ease because, to them, we were never alive.
Wow: Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention (named for Holocaust survivor Raphael Lemkin, who coined term "genocide") calls Clinton's remarks "genocide denial."

"Young people in the US are not stupid or gullible. They simply reject genocide – something the Secretary might consider doing as well."
