LP is working hard to complete their BFA at the Art Institute of Chicago, but financial hurdles are making it tough. Every donation helps cover tuition. Please consider contributing or sharing this campaign to support their journey. Every bit counts!

But also support candidates and ballot measures that fund the fucking arts
This. You can work non-stop and have all the talent and still not see a dime from that effort. It's not a complaint - just a feature of what it means to create art. For most people art is the journey not the eyes that experience it afterwards. This is ok but should also set your expectations.
Some close friends to be get a little frustrated in my tendency to priortise luck in my own career, as they know how I work. I try to explain that work just is buying a lottery ticket. It's necessary, but certainly not sufficient. I know many folks who've worked as hard but the dice have been cruel.

Dire straights are actually most closely related to coyotes
My phone's autocorrect just changed "dire straits" to "dire straights."

Now I have to know what separates a straight from a dire straight. Is this like a dire wolf situation where they're entirely different species? Or are dire straights just very tall?

I would sell my entire soul for all my fellow science communicators to stop ending the "story of the dinosaurs" at the end-cretaceous extinction and dive into, even briefly, the story of cenozoic birds. I'm also willing to offer cash, I just don't have much of it.

Quick, what’s the most nonscientific, eugenics-ass way of saying “runaway capitalism is incompatible with life as we know it”

We fiction writers call those “pro rates”

(absolutely reprehensible thought, i know, I deserve to be cancelled)
The people who make Shein's clothes labor for ten to twelve hours per day (in violation of China's labor laws), some up to seven days a week, and earn as little as 15 to 30 cents per t-shirt.

I tried to do what my good friend LP is doing and finish my bachelors degree as a working professional. I failed, but if I’d had this community back then, it would have meant everything to have this happen. It would mean everything now to see my friend get to do this. Let’s share far and wide, ok?

If you’re driving a car, and that car kills someone, you go to jail. If you’re driving a company and that company kills someone, you should go to jail. If you’re driving a country and that country kills someone, you should go to jail.
If we’re going to have prisons.
If we’re going to have leaders.

Life in San Francisco is unironically asking you partner if it’s a cold 55 or a warm 55 outside

And having them reply, without missing a beat: “a warm 55”

And going with the very slightly lighter weight jacket

The brochure called the masonry marble but it’s more like well-aged limestone. Look closely. A curved cross-section of a clam. The spiral of a snail’s shell. It still remembers being sea.

When the waves come up to my block, it will welcome them home.
The thing about stones is you will never find two the same. You try; searching sandy shores, mossy caves, and volcanic peaks, but there is always variation in texture, shape, gradation, and history. What are some of the jewels (literal or not) of your collection?

this this this
We would have been much farther along as a species if all the victims of harassment and abuse at the hands of these creeps had not dealt with that. We would have solved more problems, we would have had many more researchers, we would know more about the universe. These people should not be in power.
