"After only one year, the transformation is dramatic. A colony of 2000 Sooty Terns, where there was previously none, were feeding hundreds of chicks. We also counted 1000’s of native Pisonia grandis tree seedlings across just 60 12m monitored plots on the forest floor—in 2024 we found zero." 🌏

The Ig Nobel is incredible , one year an Indian guy won it for calculating the average surface area of an elephant and during his acceptance they had an elephant hold up a sign with the surface area of the scientist on it, they do showbiz better than the Oscars

Video: a Japanese scientist was attacked by flies while giving the acceptance speech for his Ig Nobel Prize-winning research paper that proved painting Zebra-like stripes on cows led to a decrease in biting fly attacks.

The general submissions portal is now open for all writers. We are looking for speculative fiction stories, 5000 words or under, and our preference is for something that is, more or less, fun.

I’m on the faculty of the 2026 Sandia Starforgers Writers Retreat for SFFH writers. 5,000-word critiques, classes, pitching sessions, 1:1 office hours, and plenty of time for writing. It's already 25% sold out, and the Early Bird discount is in effect. There's a scholarship! starforgers.com/2026
Over a backdrop of the Sandia Mountains are the words: "Sandia Starforgers Writers Retreat and Workshop. April 24-27, 2026. Albuquerque, NM. Starforgers.com." Then there are the names and photos of the faculty: Charlie Jane Anders, Mary Robinette Kowal, dave ring, Geoff Habiger, Marie Parks, Darling Heart, Alexandria Valentine Over a background of the Sandia Mountains are the words, "Scholarship Application Due Nov 30. It really is. That’s the challenge for me, I think having some way to work on the problem and suggest to others a path forward is, if nothing else, a cattle prod for despair

Very cool to find this review of Metamorphosis ( @grist.org !) mentioning my story "A Holdout in the Northern California Designated Wildcraft Zone" 🥰 🌿

Grist's anthology "Metamophosis" is "essential climate fiction for those of us tired of dystopic literature on climate change." Don't miss our review. @gristnews.bsky.social

I told y'all had something exciting coming out today!

In Reckoning's first decade, we have been lucky to publish beautiful poetry, prose, and art by neurodivergent creators. I hope they (and everyone else) understand how important they are. Our world would be dimmer without these unique voices.

Not everything in Picard worked for me, but shout outs to Vadic for always committing hard to pronouncing it "Captain Pea-caaaarrrrrrrrghhhh" while spinning in her chair, smoking a fat blunt

Queen shit. I miss her so much
Vadic, the villain of Star Trek Picard S3. She's got a Khan vibe to her, with a dash of the Fifth Element's Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg. She's leaning back in her chair, smoking a fat roll, and thinking about revenge. Fuck yes. Slay, queen
