Paying Nauru billions to break international law for us
Last night @davidpocock.bsky.social and I read onto the Hansard an interview by the President of Nauru that the Albanese Government has been desperately trying to keep secret.

It shows Nauru plans to send refugees to places they fled. No wonder the secrecy.

Minister Gallagher refuses to answer basic questions from @davidpocock.bsky.social about whether they got legal advice that giving cops these powers to cancel welfare payments is constitutional

It’s bad enough that the ALP aren’t already banning native forest logging, but to hold the EPBC to ransom over it is… well, typical.

Hopefully the Greens won’t cave this time. The Safeguard Mechanism was a disaster and this looks even worse.
Labor offers Greens forestry deal in exchange for support on environment laws
The ABC has been told the federal government is willing to ensure native forestry complies with tougher new standards within three years if the Greens back the reforms.

I’m guessing “don’t know” was the preferred candidate only because “none of the above” wasn’t running

This is utterly outrageous by the Group of Eight unis, and deeply insulting and undermining for environment and climate experts trying their hardest to achieve a more sustainable future for society. Shameful stuff.
1/ No surpirise that Business Council of Australia's leading the charge for further regressive changes to Watt's already regressive EPBC package

But 🤯 that the Group of 8 Unis (ANU, Monash, UAdelaide, UMelb, UNSW, USyd, UQ, UWA) have signed the 'Letter from the Alliance of 26 industry Groups' 🤬🤬🤬

The reason this is so over the top is that the people with the least character get very cross when it’s made clear they need to be ashamed of themselves.

Quick!!!! Someone purchase some fire reduction offsets
A fire erupted in a pavilion of the UN’s climate talks in Brazil today, forcing panicked delegates to run for the exits and disrupting tense negotiations among ministers from around the world.

Beyond belief that this group could be funded by the TAS state government. Imagine if we discovered that there were other allegations about them.
Camp for at-risk youths dressed workers in balaclavas
A taxpayer-funded mentoring program for at-risk Tasmanian youths posted footage on social media showing workers at a camp dressed in black clothes and balaclavas.

I’ll be honest, I’m not finding this constant stream of “we have unfortunately misled you” by the NACC very reassuring
Defence inspector inadvertently omitted 10 consultations with NACC chief
A previous disclosure that the head of the federal corruption watchdog had been consulted 11 times has been corrected to 21.

$350 billion for Aukus submarines but we can’t afford 350 research jobs
A government that can’t bring itself to tax fossil fuel, big tech or any wealth properly but defunds its critical institutions is not a good government, sorry
