In light of yesterday's news about Trump's terrible vision to expand Guantanamo Bay to a 30,000 migrant-detention facility, we just put up a film we made in '22 about the hidden horrors of this place + the power of deep listening on vimeo. #CloseGuantanamo

“In our copycat chat podcasts, generic self-help shows, paint-by-numbers murder tales, we’ve created templates that AI can also replicate.”

Thoughtful take on AI in audio and what it means for audio producers and journalists.

Evan Ratliff's series exploring generative AI in audio, blew us away - provoking questions about authenticity and what it means to sound (and be) human. In his manifesto, Evan explores these implications and holds up the mirror: who are we as storytellers, anyway:

I feel complicated about year end lists, but proud that our complicated show— made by a small but mighty team @michellemacklem.bsky.social @y00ree.bsky.social @audroma.bsky.social & #SaraNics— made this list & are in such stellar company

Screenshot from article: "Jess Shane’s dizzying and dazzling deconstruction of the documentary industrial complex is essentially a documentary about the making of a documentary. Disenchanted with her field’s traditional ethical practices, which she thinks lean exploitative, Shane sets out to reinvent the form, inviting the show’s “main characters” to take a more collaborative (and officially compensated) role in the telling of their own stories. Even when things inevitably go awry, the inside look at how narrative sausage is made — relayed with Shane’s sharp and ultimately self-lacerating wit — is never less than captivating."

A beautiful manifesto. I had an incredible experience writing for Sound Fields in its inaugural issue, and reading the other contributors’ work. Please support this valuable publication and contribute your expansive ideas to the next issue!

Sound Fields is packed with original thought and essential commentary on the state and craft of audio doc. In their Transom manifesto, @kallipearl.bsky.social and @audiosand.bsky.social offer hope, reflection AND tidbits about (super) exciting projects in the pipeline!

Shared some more thoughts on insta about what makes Short Cuts @fallingtreeprod.bsky.social and specifically Eleanor McDowall such a special audio space from the perspective of makers. Forgive the screenshots but I have a live radio show to get on the air today. 📻

Absolutely gutted by this news. Short Cuts was formative for me and so many peers. It taught us to explore our voices & take creative risks. It has been a beacon for art on the radio and emerging makers. @FallingTreeProd
fought for and built us a treasure 🕯️

After 12 years on the radio, @josielong.bsky.social's Short Cuts will have its last series on BBC Radio 4 this winter.

Against a backdrop of a forest carpeted with bluebells, a block of text reads, “After 12 years on the radio, we’re sad to share the news that BBC Radio 4 has chosen to end Short Cuts.

The episode on 7th January 2025 will be our last on their airwaves.

We are proud of this audio garden, and what has grown here over the years.”
