Experiences of living with long COVID during childhood and adolescence: a qualitative study from the child’s perspective - BMC Pediatrics
Background In February 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) defined long COVID in children, highlighting limited knowledge about its psychosocial impact. Studies show it as a complex, long-lasting condition affecting multiple systems. WHO and researchers emphasise the need for more understanding, particularly its effect on daily life. The aim of this study was to explore how life is experienced and how it changed whilst living with long COVID during childhood. Methods We present a qualitative study with an inductive and exploratory approach. Between October 2022 and March 2024, 16 children between 9 and 18 years old diagnosed with long COVID were interviewed face-to-face using a semi-structured interview guide. The results were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke. Results The results present the subjective reality of children suffering from long COVID and their struggle in daily life. The findings are presented through three themes: Losing my foothold, Fatigue decides my path, and My way forward, illustrating a temporal and emotional journey, reflecting how children make sense of their experiences, adapt to the persistent impact of long COVID, and gradually move toward acceptance. Conclusions This study addresses the lack of knowledge of long COVID in the society, how it affects children in their struggle to find a new path in life. It also shows that, with knowledge and support, the symptoms and the burden of the condition can decrease or even pass. It is important that people around these children, including health care, school and family, use this knowledge to promote health and avoid educational, health and social problems at a vulnerable time in life.

...and in that quiet moment, the echo of her pain lessened, and she experienced a sensation that felt an awful lot like hope....

A shadowy shot deep in the forest. A dollop of sun peeks through illuminated maple leaves casting a glow in a dim area. Tree trunks are barely visible.

The ocean water was crystal clear today at low tide and you’d be able to see it even better if it weren’t for the capillary waves created from the strong Southerly winds. Tap and turn horizontal for full size. I hope you are having a great day!

In the fore ground is a 4 x 4 wooden post with a tapered tip. Two bolts stick out from the wood where there used to be a sign. Beyond the post are Rhododendron bushes near. Four evergreen trees poke up as dark green contrast to the lighter green bushes that have near new growth.A dirt path with a large rock is angled downward to the right about 15°. The path is quickly hid by the bushes. beyond the evergreen trees are distant blue mountains in five sequential rows, the most distant to the left side of the picture. part of a closer mountain curves downward into the line of bushes to the left beyond them. The sky is a strong medium blue. And due to the position of the sun, the sky becomes lighter closer to the blue mountains.

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

A tree trunk fills the center portion of the picture. The right lower corner has a clump of rhododendron leaves. The left lower corner is framed on each side by a large fern frond. The left upper corner has rhododendron leaves. The right upper corner shows a deeper background to the picture where light is shining through and hitting vegetation in the background. The real star of the picture is the tree trunk which has moss along the surface of what looks like birchbark, with an opening in the tree trunk. Long, shaggy green, moss in a lighter green color forms, almost a beard from the opening in the tree trunk, giving the tree trunk the look of a mouth being alive in the forest.

#Relax is today's #BlueSkyArtShow theme. Makes me think of this early morning in the Willamette Valley of Oregon -- enjoying the beautiful vista while the fog slowly lifts. “I will meditate on your wonderful works.” Psalms 145:5

"Midnight in Kyoto" by Susan Maxwell Schmidt

A full color photograph I have altered to capture the noir mood of midnight in Kyoto on a night long passed. Desaturating the photograph to black and white, I retained just the barest whisper of faded selective color in the ancient bonsai tree to suggest its strength and endurance through the ages, and significantly adjusted the lighting to give it emphasis and add moody drama to my scene. In the end I managed to make myself want to transcend time and space and find myself standing in this place, and that gives me an inordinate amount of satisfaction. While I'm trying to figure out how to do exactly that, more info may be had at susanmaxwellschmidt.com, if you're so inclined.

If I remember correctly you walk the lower mounded rocks and the trail turns right and you go past the pancake stack.

Metoconglomarate rock. It used to be sedimentary and in places you can still see fossils in it. Locally it is known as “Pudding stones”.

The picture shows deciduous bushes and rhododendrons in deep shadow, tips in the upper part of the picture are being hit by sunlight. A flat gray slab of rock is in the lower left corner as floor of the picture, at an angle. What appears to be a pancake stack of 6 foot wide and 6 inch deep rocks rise like Jenga blocks on the left side of the picture. In front of that the rock stack is a pile of rocks, slightly different. These rocks are a little thicker and their edges are more worn. They are fallen and semi stacked on top of each other. At first, you are not sure if this is just a picture taken at the side of the trail, or if somehow the trail makes its way through the mounds of rock, then 2/3 of the way up the picture on a narrow tree trunk to the right of the picture is a round reddish orange circle with the image of a hiker on it in black, indicating that it is the Cragway Trail.

Unless you have a southern accent. (Speaking from experience), however it is faster to edit the mistakes. You end up with some interesting text if you say the word Rhododendron. Every. Time.
