Australian politicians might want to look at banning algorithms that set rents and price fix. A practice America has now banned due to its anti-competitive and predatory approach to tenants incomes as theirs to gouge. Housing is a vital need, but not the only expense in people’s lives. #housing

Linguistic/technical distinctions about horrid crimes, when mentioned by non-specialists in general argumentation, are usually made as attempts to downplay the horrors of the awful crimes. 😡

I was 14 when I was sexually abused by the paedo at my parents’ church.

It doesn’t matter that I wasn’t 8 or under. He was close to 40 and I was 14.

He did the same thing to girls of the same age for years.

Fuck him and anyone who thinks me being 14 instead of 8 makes him not a paedo. 🖕

The mayor of Tamworth Council is a very old mate of Barnaby Joyce's and a National party member

No surprises this backward collection of red-necks drags their council to court on their ratepayers' money to oppose a wind farm - and even then can't get their legal arguments right
Tamworth Council went to court to try and stop a wind farm. It didn’t go well. Tamworth Council argued that the wind turbines would be too big for local roads. The judge pointed out there is no approval needed to drive on a public road reneweconomy.com.au/youve-got-to...

I’ve been around long enough to remember exactly how it happened.

Is your landlord and real estate ignoring asbestos? Make sure they’re not. Lives depend on this.

When you live in a property with asbestos you tend to care about safe work practices, but when it’s tenants, apparently it’s not so important. 🤬 #asbestos #auspol

This is such a hunbling read. We're all just one or two life events away from losing everything. Never assume it can't be you. Heart goes out to Alison and anyone else living in financial hardship. Govt priorities are out of kilter with realities. Not good enough.

Good to hear talk of #JobSeeker being raised today. To more than the 67% it currently is of the aged pension. Acknowledging that poverty ends up costing a lot more than just the lives affected. When it comes to the housing crisis, we've hit the trifecta
The Australian housing crisis continues to bite as a new report shows the median rental value across our capital cities is now $702 a week.

Australia doesn’t have a set poverty line. Since the early seventies the cost of living, housing inflation and wages have all been leaving workers and people behind for investors and the wealthy. Not seeing poverty as structural means we are harming people. #auspol
Poverty is about more than income, but that is all we measure
We get detailed measurements of population, participation and productivity. Advocates want to add a fourth "p" — poverty — so we can understand our economy.

As Anti-Poverty weeks begin in Australia, for those affected by it, it’s a long journey of loss.

Loss of security, home, safety, health and dignity.

The #masks many must wear may fool you. #StructuralInequality and #homelessness is unacceptable. #auspol 😔 🏠
Behind the mask, I am the hidden face of poverty in WA
Increasingly in WA, poverty looks like me: a 67-year-old grandmother who once ran a thriving business, owned a home, and raised two sons surrounded by love and opportunity.
