We are thrilled that the #Illinois Assembly passed the #CleanSlate Act today! This vital piece of legislation provides for automatic record sealing for most nonviolent convictions, giving real second chances to those who have served their time. www.wcia.com/news/illinoi...

Illinois can and must do better for its people. Our deepest condolences go to Sonya Massey's family as they grieve their loved one and continue to seek justice and accountability.
This case underscores the need for a strong state police officer decertification system to ensure problem officers are discovered and removed, rather than allowing them to move from department to department and escape consequences.
Sean Grayson, who has a history of officer misconduct, should never have been in a position to be in Sonya Massey's home responding to her calls for help.
Sonya Massey was a daughter, a mother, and loved one who called police for assistance and was met with horrifying brutality. But this murder never should have happened.

Impact for Equity is proud to work alongside #CAFHA in our efforts to improve the state's Affordable Housing Planning and Appeal Act ( #AHPAA ) and create a proactive #rental inspection system in Chicago through the #HealthyHomesCoalition. Congratulations on 40 years, CAFHA!
We are thrilled to celebrate 40 years of our esteemed partner the Chicago Area Fair Housing Alliance (CAFHA), an organization that advances the cause of #fairhousing for residents of #Chicagoland and throughout the state of #Illinois.

A U.S. Supreme Court decision is raising concerns about racial profiling in federal law enforcement as immigration raids ramp up.

But locally, advocates said discriminatory policing is nothing new. And some worry the high court’s ruling could potentially impact local policing. to.wttw.com/46MDxOw
Last night, our own Director of Criminal Legal System Loren Jones was featured on a WTTW - Chicago PBS #ChicagoTonight panel discussing racial profiling and the implications of the recent Supreme Court decision in Noem v. Perdomo.

Impact for Equity stands with the Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice, who is calling on all Illinoisans to write to Governor Pritzker’s office to let him know that on no uncertain terms, you support no-cash bail.
By ending cash bail, Illinois has begun to level the playing field. Pretrial release should be determined by a number of factors, none of which is how much money the accused has available to them.
These are fundamentally undemocratic ideals that in essence create two legal systems – one for the rich and well-connected, another for everyone else.
In Illinois, the Pretrial Fairness Act recognized that cash bail places an undue burden on poor and minoritized communities by effectively saying pretrial freedom can be bought, is only for the affluent, and should depend upon one’s income level.
Today, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order aimed at strongarming states into violating their own laws that ended cash bail.
In 2025, Illinois does not have *any* #affordablehousing being built in the state's least-affordable communities under the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC). Impact for Equity encourages future rounds of funding to incentivize the development of low-income #housing in these areas.
