Next up, installing a working screen?

Lego really knocked it out of the park with the Lego Gameboy. It’s such a faithful recreation of the classic DMG. Love it!

Committed a cardinal sin of modding: screw too long 😅🥲

I was psyched for this new GBA SP shell. Maybe a little too hyped. Punched a screw right through the middle of the main body. It kinda blends in, right? Maybe it just needs a sticker? 🤣

I’ve reshelled many GBs and this was my first big oopsy 🤣

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) was nearly a walk-out for me. All the characters were dumb as posts, the writing was full of holes, bad guy was predictable… definitely not helping to bolster the original slasher style. 🪝

It’s a Weller WE1010 Desktop soldering iron… something like $100 a few years ago. Looking inside you can see it’s definitely built on a budget. I added all the kapton tape and heat shrink tube to the plugs to add some protection. Can’t believe no connections were protected.

The fun part of modifying your soldering iron is realizing you need to solder something…. inside the iron…. 😆

Eventually, I found my Pinecil USB soldering iron and finished the job.

I added this red LED power indicator light to my cheap Weller soldering iron today. The iron doesn’t come with a backlit LCD or any other indicator that the unit is on, so I’m constantly forgetting to turn it off. Well, not any more! (I hope)
Weller desktop soldering iron with a red LED added above the power switch. The power is on and the LED is shining brightly.

Yeah you’re probably right. I suppose people were sitting in front of the TV to play SFC in Japan… they would have had to!

Did you know that Super Famicom controller cables are less than 1 meter (3’) long?

But not this one! Extended the cable to 3m (9’) and wrapped it in leftover paracord. Overall happy with how it looks and ecstatic that I can sit further away from my SFC. #SFC #SNES #nintendo

Swapped out that lame plastic coating on my Gamecube controller cable for a purple-patterned paracord. Perfect! #gamecube #retro

You know, it's kinda funny that WordPress VIP hosting doesn't use the same `wp-content` convention that the open-source product uses. They abstract it all away. Maybe it's not the best approach after all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks! 😊 I’ve tried a few different speeds but still looking for the sweet spot. I have full control over that. I’m going to try adding a small red gradient on the bottom to see if it helps sell the “base” of the fire, then work on those flames.

This has been a fun project!

Here’s an attempt at a “plasma” effect too. I’m not sure I’ll ever get this one to look good haha

The paper is placed over the display to (1) diffuse the light and (2) protect my retinas. Those LEDs can get super bright if you aren’t knocking down the brightness in code.

Picked up working on demoscene animations for the DCPixel while my PC was on the fritz. This is a simple attempt at the classic “fire effect” … on an 8x8 pixel display 🤣

The low resolution means you really have to use your imagination to see the “fire” but it’s a start haha.

Earlier this month I got to thank Scott Kirkland from The Crystal Method for all the incredible music he and Ken produced during my formative years. He was super kind and really friendly to speak with. He even had special shirts printed for the Canadian tour. What a rockstar!

This quote from EarthBound just doesn't get old.

Ness in EarthBound aka MOTHER 2, talking to someone who says "You guys can't envision the final collapse of capitalism? Incredible!"

I was there too! Phil played such a great set! It was my first time seeing both Phil and Crystal Method, even though I’ve been a fan for years. Hopefully they come back again!
