Hi all, I’m Mark Ingalls - a meteorologist in British Columbia. At work I forecast for #energy related things in the Eastern U.S. Here I’ll post about Pacific Northwest #weather and other general thoughts related to my recent move to Canada, my #LDS faith, and other stuff.

I am saddened to report that I lost Whamageddon 2025 and have entered Whamhalla.

I was in a high rise in downtown Vancouver. The elevator opened to the lobby and the chorus was blasting.

Lower Mainland communities like Surrey, White Rock, and Abbotsford, plus a few neighbours in Washington, are on a temporary island today as the Nooksack River backs up into Sumas Prairie.

On southern Vancouver Isle today at 11 am the farm fields in central Saanich were all under water (Michell & Vantreight farms among others.) The water pools on the Pat Bay Highway were more treacherous than usual. Rain finaly stopped here in the Gulf Islands about 90 min ago (7pm PST)

It's pretty bad w/24 hours of rain; the last 4-5 seeing 5-10 mm/h in parts of the Valley (especially E), not to mention the WA Cascades. I would not be surprised to see much of Sumas Prairie underwater tomorrow morning

Lots of flooding in and around Surrey, BC. We tried to go to the LDS Temple in Langley tonight but decided to turn around and go home when we encountered the second road closure less than 10 km from White Rock.

Just finished significantly expanding the #Wikipedia article for McDermitt Caldera in Oregon/Nevada, which has significant lithium deposits but is also critical sage grouse habitat.

Today (yesterday) in the Cliff Mass #weather blog:

-Serious flooding is inevitable (posted when serious flooding was already occurring)

-The Yakima R. is flooding that means the drought is over (they don't start filling reservoirs until Feb or Mar due to the risk of overfill in future ARs)

A major #flood event is underway in the Pacific Northwest. A few rivers in Western Washington will break records this week due to the #AtmosphericRiver with several others in the region to reach moderate to major flood. Even the Yakima River East of the Cascades is forecast to flood.

My wife and daughter were woken up to a fire alarm and smoke in our apartment building. Daughter was traumatized standing out in rain in a blanket and PJs.

Picked them up and took them to McD's for breakfast and she was much happier.

Building was cleared by the fire department and all is well now.
