Hi all, I’m Mark Ingalls - a meteorologist in British Columbia. At work I forecast for #energy related things in the Eastern U.S. Here I’ll post about Pacific Northwest #weather and other general thoughts related to my recent move to Canada, my #LDS faith, and other stuff.

Rain showers tapering off this morning. Some clearing in Surrey and Langley otherwise mostly cloudy. Mix of clouds and sun tomorrow and it's looking quite moist for trick or treating.

I should’ve learned this by now but DO NOT use FedEx. The diseased monkeys I ordered haven’t arrived and I can’t get a straight answer on what happened to them

I STRONGLY CONDEMN the actions taken by the hurricane

The Melissa disaster porn crowd is insufferable: Why is it only raining? Buildings aren't damaged? It's not that bad. Boring. (vid from eastern Jamaica) // Video must be fake, using old storm footage on a loop. Why is there no live feed from inside the eye? Wind didn't shift, so not a hurricane. 📹🌀🤦

Update: Hurricane Melissa has made landfall in southwestern Jamaica — and has tied the all-time record for strongest Atlantic basin hurricane landfall.

Hurricane Melissa will be a generational-scale climate disaster and will require an international response to help Jamaicans recover.
Right now in my office where the RH is 32%.
The last time a hurricane as intense as Melissa made landfall in the Atlantic was 1935.
#Hurricane #Melissa now has winds of 290 km/h and central pressure of 896 mb as of 09:00 ET Tuesday.

A few showers this morning, especially near the mountains. Clearing this afternoon for communities like Surrey and Langley. High around 11. Light rain showers near the mountains tomorrow. Partly cloudy Thursday and rainy this weekend.

2PM EDT, #Melissa now est’d at 280km/h (175mph) max sustained winds & 906 mb central pressure.
That places it among the most intense Atlantic hurricanes: likely in the top 10 lowest pressures on record, & one of the highest-wind #Cat5 storms in the N Atlantic.

Jamaica just to N.

It's still dry here in Bellingham, but quite windy!

I love the texture of the clouds over the Great Lakes, but the valley fog between Minneapolis and Dubuque is pretty awesome.
I don't think there's a significant tornado threat for Cancun.
The Olympic Rain Shadow is clearly visible on #weather radar this morning with Sequim, the San Juan Islands, and Bellingham all dry.

Interestingly, Sequim averages less rain annually than Walla Walla in the Eastern Washington desert!
