So if we engage with the far right, it is not socialism, it is the practicality of enforcing the Constution's own words. The Constitution contains two references to "the General Welfare", one occurring in the Preamble and the other in the Taxing and Spending Clause.
But also we don't ever need to walk down the slippery slope of calling welfare with capitalism as "socialism inspired" when what we really have is a capitalist system plus a rep. democratic government that is responsible for its citizens' welfare.
That's the concept in the Constitution itself.
My point in making this distinction is "socialism" has a negative connotation, and thus I want to avoid such reference in explaining welfare programs. Almost all of us actually would never want pure capitalism, and if you frame it as a matter of degree b/t U.S. and Denmark, etc, it's more palatable.
We need to think in terms of "socializing" of costs not "socialist". We have not had a pure capitalist economy (we have regs, regulated industries like utilities, & shared services like roads, schools, police) for a long time & in that context we socialize quite a few costs.
I disagree. Socializing costs to provide certain safety nets isn't necessarily a product of socialist principles. Rather, it's a product of practicality even within a capitalistic structure. Lots of industries socialize costs to make a profit -- insurance being a prime example. IMO.
I have yet to converse with a MAGA who knows the difference between capitalism with some social programs vs. "socialism" as an economic system.
You can be a liberal or conservative and be a capitalist. It's just a matter of degree of how many social programs.
Sure you can. Capitalism is an economic system. It can have lots of social safety nets.
That is what bugs me about Republicans/MAGAs -- they don't know the difference between Socialism (as an economic system) and Capitalism with social programs and regulations.
Don't fall for the conflation.
I read Comey's filing--lots of good arguments for dismissal w/ prejudice, including that if SOL is tolled for 6 mos, the govt is in fact in a better position due to its shenanigans, b/c they only had 5 days before the expiration of the SOL to bring the case. If they now have 6 months, that's unfair.
They're in session because they begin session each day. But then they gavel out immediately because Mike Johnson is a pedophile-protecting partisan shit-stain masquerading as a public servant.
Congress in in session. They just aren't doing their jobs. Well, the GOP isn't.
Or some kids being kids. If it were Trump, it would be Trump being Trump.
Dems are terrible at messaging. The GOP has perfected the art of elevating every outrage, even fake ones, to be covered by the podcasters and fake news (FOX) and even MSM.
And COMPLETELY MAKE UP so-called political violence from the left to portray every event, even a peaceful gathering, to be terroristic and funded by terrorists.
But calling elected GOP officials fascists is right out.
Someone please tell me how this works!
"Them" are the American people, Mike, including your own constituents. Why do you divide Americans into us and them? Maybe listen to what "they" are saying?
Well, at least this is fitting given his incontinence.
Yes. I was expecting him to seek revenge, ignore the courts, piss off allies, profit on the presidency, pardon Jan 6 insurrectionists, & squash all checks & balances, because he did all that in his first term or said he was going to do it during the campaign. & because he's a clinical narcissist.
Or, he will say he'll pay them out of his pocket, then when forced to pay them, will pay them out of our pockets, and pay himself as well, plus make money monetizing the publicity for paying them, and then send official government e-mails blaming the Democrats for delaying the payments.
What are you talking about? If Trump won the election, I was expecting a lawless administration. He campaigned on that, basically.
Actually, the entire MAGA party went from "don't call us Nazis, that incites violence" to "yeah, we're totally OK with sympathizing with Nazis" in the span of 2 months. 🤷‍♂️
