Photographer.
Immersion.

Something a little different.

A series of images looking at our relationship with nature through the prism of a wild swimmer. A combination of portrait and ICM images attempt to convey the submission of the swimmer to the river and the ritualisation of that process.

Cape Wrath.

Just after dawn in late November. A beautiful nothingness.

The Van, Cape Wrath.

There is one road on Cape Wrath, leading from the ferry dock to the lighthouse. "Road" is a generous description nowadays. Halfway along it an abandoned transit van sits in the landscape, slowly rusting away but providing some shelter for hikers during the winter.

We are between weather systems today. This evening Storm Claudia will arrive with 24 hours of wind and rain. But, until then, we can gaze at the horizon and watch the sun set.

I’ve written to Marks and Spencer’s to let them know how to improve. I’ll update you on progress.

It's felt like this all week down here in the West Country. Water everywhere, low grey skies, and both seemed to stretch out endlessly.

This is in fact the Ceredigion coast taken a couple of summers ago. Nevertheless it feels apt.

It stopped raining and so I went out and ran for 10 miles. I tried to have profound thoughts and insights into the condition of humankind but nothing came to me so I looked at swans and was overtaken by a squirrel.

The Bothy at Kearvaig, Cape Wrath.

A profoundly solitary place with an almost crushing sense of melancholia.

Eryri/Snowdonia.

It's grim here in Devon today. Rain and wind all afternoon. So this was from a dry moment the day after the marathon when we scrambled a short distance up the Watkin path so Ruth could have a swim.

Eryri/Snowdonia

It is obligatory when visiting a UK National Park to take a photo on a lone tree. This obligation is now fulfilled.

Eryri/Snowdonia.

Although I've processed the imagery I haven't yet quite got my head around what I saw and felt two weekends ago. I'll get there eventually.

We went to Eryri ( Snowdonia) last weekend. My partner to runaway marathon and me to support her and take some new photos.

I’m still processing what I saw on what was my first visit. Conditions were excellent, low cloud, driving rain and strong winds. An excellent weekend.

Welsh landscape historians/artists - a question.
I visited the Eryri Monutains last weekend for the first time. I’ve previously spent time in both the Cambrian Mountains and Bannau Brycheiniog.
They are obviously very different places with very different landscapes.

Hurricane #Melissa's pressure has dropped to 892 mb tied with the Florida Keys Hurricane of 1935 for the 3rd lowest pressure for an Atlantic hurricane on record

Only Wilma (2005) - 882 mb and Gilbert (1988) - 888 mb have been lower

Lower pressure = stronger hurricane

An “adit” is a horizontal shaft used in mine works to drain the mine of water. The water drizzles down the sides of the adit where, very slowly, it reacts with the minerals in the granite. Beautiful forms and patterns emerge on these walls in some places.
