We:
promote literature in and about Ireland;
defend worldwide the right of writers to responsible freedom of expression as defined in the PEN Charter;
foster international understanding through the appreciation of literature.

Omar El Akkad spoke after winning the 2025 National Book Award for nonfiction for “One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This,” his book on the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. He accepted the award at a gala in New York City this week.

This is journalist, Furkan Karabay, 29 yrs old who has been held in pre-trial detention in Turkey since May 2025, charged with insulting his president in his news reports. His next trial is 2nd December & he faces 6-15 years in prison if sentenced. We call for his release. Please repost for Furkan.
