👉 Interestingly, we find that overall there are more pro-climate groups than anti-climate groups. For example, most of the NGOs in our study tend to support climate change, such as the Australian Conservation Foundation, Greenpeace, and WWF, whereas many of the business groups do not.

📣 Darren Halpin and I have a new paper out in @environmentalpol.bsky.social that systematically maps who mobilises on climate policy in Australia, what side of the issue they fall on, and in which arenas they mobilise.

Focusing on the electoral dynamics between center-left and postmaterialist left parties, we find that center-left parties benefit from incorporating both economic equality and equal rights in their platforms, whereas postmaterialist left parties gain support primarily by emphasising equal rights.

Any other time in recent historyThe Zone of Interest would have been lauded by audiences, but because
director Jonathan Glazer had the audacity to speak about Israel’s ongoing genocide it hasn’t received the attention it deserves.

'Climate people should stop opposing fossil extraction because people are worried about energy affordability' has always been a snooty, bad-faith plea that ignores the fundamental untruth at its heart: fossil fuels are the exact things making energy unaffordable, and deepened reliance = worse pain

It is weird how every plea to pivot away from climate to energy affordability actually ends up just agreeing entirely with the goals of climate.

First it was the way renewables ended up helping reduce power bills, now it's clear opposing massive unchecked gas export build-out does the same

You know, many of us said the post 9/11 War on Terror measures were Orwellian bullshit at the time, from DHS to ICE. The Patriot Act was chilling as well.

Some of us objected vociferously. Perhaps we didn't have the mics or the power, but we remember 2001-2005 as a terrible time in this country.
