We are excited to invite postgraduate students attending hashtag#LEPH2025 to join us for the SIG Education Pre-Conference Day

📍 Saturday 12 July 2025 | University of Ottawa

This week I was invited to contribute to the Trauma Aware Communities Summit, organised by Peter Miller and in-TAG. My team at TILES @utas.edu.au have been working with our colleagues in Tasmania Police to build a police & first-responder specific trauma-informed message, training & research program

Thank you @cska-canada.bsky.social for having me and my colleague Commander Joanna Stolp from Tasmania Police contribute to the research symposium on Trauma-Informed Practice. It was an honour to talk about our work from the antipodes. #traumainformed #policing @utas.edu.au

The recent Productivity Commission report (www.pc.gov.au/ongoing/repo...) shows that Tasmania Police is a leader on several key performance indicators for police in Australia. Very proud of our police in our state. @utas.edu.au

I would love to see you there, Mike! Lots to talk about.

First Board meeting of the Global Law Enforcement and Public Health Association (GLEPHA). Delighted to work with these extraordinary individuals, on behalf of our community of practitioners, scholars, and advocates.
New initiatives, two conferences this year (looking forward to Ottawa and Sydney).

An on this much satisfying screenshot, my friends, have a lovely break. I will be back late January.

Love the blanket. I have a Christmas Day knitting cast on planned for tomorrow.

Fascinating stuff. I was just looking for the perfect conversation topic for the festive table. Work done.

Delighted to announce that our @utas.edu.au collaboration in teaching and research with Tasmania Police is being renewed for the next few years. Grateful for the ongoing trust and relationship. Watch that space for further announcements regarding our work and scholarship.

Excited about the work that our team is doing on #bail, #police and #police prosecutors. Emma Colvin (CSU) and I have just submitted a draft article on our analysis of the police prosecutors' decision making process to grant or refuse bail to vulnerable people. Very much looking forward to feedback.

Yesterday, a colleague & I submitted a draft chapter that we wrote JUST FOR FUN. How cool is this? It's about finding new communities to sustain well-being, mental health & resilience within and outside the workplace. The chapter is for an upcoming book edited by @rellypops.bsky.social & colleagues

Academics often think of ethics as an obstacle. I think of it as a tool to work through the technicalities of fieldwork. Once embraced, it's a fairly straightforward process. Delighted that our PhD student Rosie Martin (@amandalneil.bsky.social) received ethics approval with no request for change.

I really can't complain about my lack of flu symptoms, but the loss of smell and taste really sucks. Do not recommend, and totally blaming husband for bringing that home with him.

Really? Never had a problem with my applications, not even the high risk ones (for which I do receive questions, though, or requests for further detail). I have served on the ethics board for many years too, and know how the system works, but still! Your experience sounds harrowing.

Also, in last weekend's news, I tested positive for COVID for the very first time.

Zero 'flu-like' symptom, nothing except for loss of taste and smell (I actually only tested because something I knew was quite flavoursome did not taste like what it should).

Really???

@lizhughesdd.bsky.social, you would be proud!

Chuffed to have presented at University of Tasmania annual hashtag#teaching and hashtag#learning conference, Teaching Matters (sites.google.com/view/teachin...) on the curriculum co-design work we do with our police organisations.

Already working on my #evidencebasedpolicing class for Semester 1 2025 (I have some early enrolments). I am so excited. This is one of my favourite classes to teach. @utas.bsky.social

Thanks! You too. Took me a while! :/

Finally got a few minutes to join BSky. Very excited to be part of a more constructive and forward-looking platform.
A new scenario-based, evidence-informed, officer-safety training course for UK police led to a 10% reduction in use of force and no increase in injuries to officers.
