Yesterday I attended the launch of the Open Access journal “Intercultural Dialogue,” edited by Prof. Liu Yue, at the University Foundation in Brussels.

A very pleasant evening of discussion on China–Europe relations, languages, and culture. Looking forward to this exciting collaboration!

All packed and ready to board my flight to Japan for the upcoming Japanese Studies conference at Tohoku University organized by @eajs.eu

Sleep was in short supply last night, but with 13 hours on a plane ahead of me, I’m grateful for the chance to rest, read, and think uninterrupted.

Very much enjoyed reading this insightful introduction to modern Chinese history by Prof. Rana Mitter.

As a publisher, I’ll admit I envy the idea behind @oxunipress.bsky.social’s Very Short Introductions series. It’s deceptively simple but so well executed! Fully recommend this title.

As a Romanian living abroad, I’m often asked about the connection between Romanians and the Roma people—a complex history I’ve struggled to explain. @madelinepotter.bsky.social's book offers a clear, thoughtful look at Romani culture and history. It’s eye-opening and deeply humanizing. Recommend!

If you catch me watching documentaries about ramen at work, don’t worry—it’s strictly academic. Totally legitimate. Absolutely serious.
We’re excited to share that Prof. Barak Kushner, author of “Slurp!” (Brill, 2012), has narrated a documentary on ramen history!
