~ it’s in half truths. Outright lies like this never work.

“I’ll just . . . leave.”

He’s probably making her very uncomfortable.

~ Not mine. My friend . . .Ted.”

If she knew Ted, she would determine he very much is not getting married.

“I think they all . . . thought it was funny and . . .”

And Jack Russell is a horrible liar. Which is why he usually says nothing at all when he needs to keep a secret. If he has to speak,~

Jack wraps the blanket just a bit more tightly around himself.

“Hi . . .”

He would wave but . . . probably best not.

“Sorry, I . . . well, I probably should explain . . . this.”

How exactly does one explain being in the middle of the forest wearing nothing but a blanket?

“Bachelor party. ~

“Which is why we need to get you out. I’m not . . . myself when I turn. I mean, I am. I take responsibility. I just . . . can’t control it.”

~ hardly have the luxury right now. She would find out whether or not he tells her. At least telling her might motivate her to get up and and through that vent faster.

It’s definitely “need to know.”

He clears his throat.

“I assume they found out what I am. I’m a werewolf.”

He points to the ~

~ itself when he turns.

Then she asks.

“I can keep a secret,” he promises. “I suppose I have one of my own.”

He smiles apologetically.

“The reason I am here.”

He could only imagine one reason. While Jack likes to be discrete with strangers — making it a sort of “need to know” thing — they ~

Jack follows her gaze towards the ceiling, and then he looks back at her.

“I might be able to lift you up there. You could get on my shoulders.”

It might be their only chance. If the ventilation system leads out or at least to another room, she would be safe. She might even be safe in the vent ~

~ they told Ellie about him, so he would feel things out.

“They are good people. It is nice to meet a mutual friend.”
ivegotsystems.bsky.social
Ahhh. His moon friends.

“I know Marc and Jake the best,” he replies. “They tend to be around when . . . I need a little help.”

He has a deal with Marc to let him out of confinement once a month.

“I ran into Steven once.”

Poor Steven was confused about the storage unit.

He does see the selflessness in the gesture.

“Time will tell,” he agrees. “And thank you. For doing this and being willing ~
ivegotsystems.bsky.social
Jack exhales slowly.

He really isn’t all that confident that a controlled hunt would be enough for her.

The werewolf hasn’t gotten his shifting under control yet. Perhaps, he never would, though he’s heard that it is possible to maintain something of oneself when the change happens. Now, he ~

~ what Adam is. “Nor are you. Sadly, humans do not always see it that way. As for how I found you, I have contacts around the country who help me keep tabs on areas with think our kind have settled. They mentioned strange night visits to a blood bank. I decided to have a look and waited until you ~
ivegotsystems.bsky.social
He has barely enough time to take a step before Adam speaks again.

“I have the resources to help people, so I do.”

He has a good heart, and it is as simple as that.

“I am not . . . a monster,” he insists, fairly certain Adam can tell what he is as much as his own sense of smell can pick up ~

~ “I’m leaving my card. Should you change your mind.”

He sticks said card into the mail slot.

“I have a place in California. A home for people . . like us.”

Different. Not human.

“Should you need somewhere to lie low.”
ivegotsystems.bsky.social
Jack just does his research, and he’s got contacts most places.

He has met with resistance from potential, well, clients for lack of a better word, in the past. Adam’s insistence that he is fine is nothing new.

“For now. Just . . . be careful.”

Warning a vampire. Now that’s a novelty. ~
ivegotsystems.bsky.social
Vampires. Always so grumpy.

“My name is Jack!” he calls from the other side of the door. “I am here to help. I don’t mean any harm.”

Quite the opposite. He had gotten word that there were some odd goings on at the local hospital. People were suspicious. It’s his job to keep those responsible ~
