Meaning : prayer, invocation

#Tamajeq : tuwaṭre

#Tadaksahak : addaɛa

#Tetserret : addaɛa

Tetserret has the word 'twatri' but it means 'request, search' and it often used in a secular context while the Tamajeq word 'tuwaṭre' is often used in religious context like addaɛa.

I saw that in the Ngizim language a Hausa person is called 'apeno'. This immediately reminded me of the Tamajeq word 'atefən' which designates a Hausa person in the Ayer dialect. Maybe they are related ?

The Tetserret word for slave "amažgar" is possibly an old loanword from Arabic musaxxar (مسخر) from the root سخر (to subject, to submit) .

This also possibly the source of zenaga 'azagur' but apparently these word is not a common word in zenaga unlike amažgar in tetserret .

More Numidian mysteries!

Most Numidian stelae have at least two lines or (à la limite) one line containing several words. Only in one cemetery do we find a series of really short inscriptions (Mechta el Maza, near Bouchegouf, Guelma province, Algeria), esp. RIL 1085-1092.

But…

🗿NABATAEAN NEWS🗿

Recently (2024), Laïla Nehmé published four #Nabataean texts from a burial site in north-western Saudi Arabia. Three are very fragmentary, but the fourth is the longest Nabataean text on stone found so far! Two things that stood out to me:

" The heart "

#Tamasheq : ulh

#Tamajeq : əwəl

#Tadaksahak : əwəl

#Tetserret : ul

In most Amazigh languages it's /ul/
Only Tamasheq dialect has retained the *h. And the WL form of Tamajeq and Tadaksahak is strange perhaps a metathesis of *LH/*LB ?

Pan-Africanism is being destroyed by the Kemits who are obsessed with Egypt, skin color and hatred of abrahamic religions .

They divide Africa more than they unite it

'' The north ''

#Tamajeq_azawagh : Tamaṣna

#Tadaksahak : Tamaṣna

#Tagdal : Tammaṣna

#Tetserret : Agafey

*Tamaṣna is a region north of Azawagh which explains why its name is used to refer to the north in general. In tayert dialect the north is generally 'Ayer' referring to the Ayer Mountains

I have always found it strange that the Tetserret word /aḍi/ (wind, smell) has a final -i while in Tamajq and most Amazigh languages it's /aḍu/ with a final -u

I just saw in this group that this final -i is also attested in Zenaga /aḍi/

I just saw that Tadaksahak has retained the word taṣallit to designate the Eid celebration .

It's like Amud and Təṣallit in Tamajeq and Tetserret which refer to both the prayer and the Eid .
Correspondance :

Meaning : Prayer

#Tamajeq : Amud

#Tetserret : Tǝṣallit

#Tadaksahak : Jinjiri

The tadaksahak jinjiri comes from Songhay

The Amud of Tamajeq has a cognate in Awjila

And Tǝṣallit of tetserret has cognat in most Amazigh languages and it's a Amazighized loanword from Arabic

A short thread on onomastics in Numidian inscriptions (eastern script).

Indexes of names in eastern Numidian inscriptions (Chabot 1940, Rebuffat 2018) provide us with an almost ridiculous number of different names. I wondered if this is correct, or if this is due to the messiness of the corpus.

There is this article which talks about the relations between the Songhai emperor Askia Mohamed and the preacher Al-Maghili who was opponent of the Jews and apparently he also had problem with the Massufa of Timbuktu.
