Thank you! These photos aren't from this year; as I write this on Sept 27, the colors are more or less just getting started here in SW Colorado. Further along further north.

Thanks for the share! Aspens definitely aren't an invasive species in CO, though! Native as can be.

Thanks for looking and for your compliments!

Thank you for your kind words, Evelyn! I'm glad you enjoy my work.

Gold + mountains + snow is pretty nice. Though I'm still longing to experience an autumn in the northeast someday.

You're welcome, and thanks for your kind comment!

Fog is pretty rare here in Colorado; needless to say aspens + fog = a giddy photographer.

I often think that backlit aspens look like stained glass. Or walking through a Klimt painting.
jackbrauer.mountainphotography.com
Yes, that certainly happens, especially for us photographers... You can really get swept away in the beauty!

I often wonder how old a grove might be, sprouting new boles and slowing moving across a mountainside over the centuries...
jackbrauer.mountainphotography.com
That's right, and the smell of autumn, and the bugling elk...
jackbrauer.mountainphotography.com
Thank you! There's nothing quite like the sound of the breeze going through the aspen forest.
jackbrauer.mountainphotography.com
Yes, that's correct! Each bole is sprout of the same tree; there can be many acres of aspens which are actually the same tree. I'm pretty sure that by mass these are the largest organisms on the planet.

Walking through a grove of golden quaking #aspens is one of nature's most beautiful experiences, like entering a natural cathedral with sacred light. See my gallery of #Colorado #fallcolors photos here: www.mountainphotography.com/gallery/autu...
Aspen forest in the fog - September, Colorado. Rich sunset light filters through the aspens near Marble, Colorado. Golden aspen leaves flutter to the ground on a breezy day at the tail end of autumn in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado Golden light in golden aspens deep in the West Elk Wilderness, Colorado.

Congrats and wonderful photo, @kennymuir.bsky.social, with its stark, high-contrast b&w foreground tree against the softer, mystical background. That splash of light ties it all together!

I’m excited to have come first place in the Woodlands category in the @natural-landscapes.bsky.social awards with this photo ‘Remnant of time’.
It was taken on an exceptionally cold morning with a thick frost encrusting the Caledonian forest. Congrats to other winners, organisers and judges. #nlpa

Thank you. At least we had a beautiful 3 days before getting inundated by the smoke.

In early September we had to retreat unexpectedly from a backpack trip in the #WindRiverRange of #Wyoming due to #wildfire smoke from the nearby #DollarLakeFire.

Check out more photos and stories from this unique and surreal trek here: www.mountainphotography.com/gallery/smok...
Sunset light on Fremont Peak reflected in Island Lake in the Wind River Range, Wyoming. A smoky sunset reflection in Titcomb Basin in the Wind River Range, Wyoming. Pyrocumulus clouds from the Dollar Lake Wildfire waft in the sky above Elklund Lake, Wind River Range, Wyoming, September 2025. The moon shines through pine trees and a wildfire smoke filled sky.

Here's another batch of photos from a two-week trek through the #Écrins National Park in the French #Alps last month. These are some of the most idyllic mountains I've ever visited!
