Me dice Wikipedia que hubo una adaptación española presentada por Jesús Álvarez y otro par de adaptaciones en versión "famosos" presentadas por Paula Vázquez.

¿Alguien puede decirme si hay otros presentadores en España, o es que dejaron de contratarlos nuevos cuando me fui del país?

No obstante, ha habido escándalos. En una ocasión estaban haciendo "Baked Alaska" (un helado dentro de un merengue horneado) y una concursante sacó del congelador compartido el helado de otro concursante y se le quedó fuera un par de minutos.

¿Habría sido sabotaje? Tachán, tachán...

Hay eliminaciones, pero es "el brazo de gitano se te ha agrietado y la tarta del final no era suficientemente inventiva", no "Joseph de Swansea lo ha hecho mejor."

Aunque, ojo, en los últimos programas de cada temporada tiene que haber algo de eso porque el nivel es increíble, pero aun así. 9/11

Lo cual es otra diferencia enorme. El premio en un concurso americano sería una cantidad de dinero. En GBBO es una bandeja para tartas.

Esto cambia la dinámica del concurso mogollón.

Los concursantes se ayudan entre si. Se entiende que la competición es contra uno mismo, no contra los demás. 8/11

Esto choca algo a los televidentes estadounidenses porque el equivalente en un concurso local sería 20 minutos de "Joseph es un veterano de Irak casado con una veterana de Afganistán, y su hijo tiene triple cáncer."

Los concursantes son "amateur bakers" de todas las partes del Reino Unido y de todas las condiciones. En el primer par de programas nos dan una pequeña viñeta sobre sus vidas ("Joseph vive en Swansea con su marido y es profesor cuyos alumnos disfrutaban cuando practicaba para el concurso"). 6/11

Prue nació en Sudáfrica y se montó un restaurante con estrella Michelín en Londres a los 29 años e hizo un mogollón de cosas más.

Le gusta que los pasteles lleven alcohol, que la vida es corta.

Su otra afición es darle la mano a los concursantes cuando han hecho algo perfecto. Todo el mundo hace como si fuera algo especial y no haya tenido episodios con cuatro o cinco "Hollywood handshakes".

Paul Hollywood es un panadero de Liverpool. Una de sus principales aficiones es sobarle el pan a los concursantes y decirles que no está cocido mientras convierte la miga en masa cruda con el poder que emana de sus dedos salchicheros. 3/11

Los jueces son Paul Hollywood y Prue Keith, y los presentadores una pareja de cómicos (en las ultimas temporadas que vi eran Noel Fielding —el gótico de The IT Crowd— y Matt Lucas —de Little Britain). Antes de Prue era Mary Berry, que tenía dos millones de años. Prue sólo tiene medio millón. 2/11

"Diez concursantes se superan a si mismos para ganar la tetera."
La adaptación americana:
"Diez concursantes se pelean por ganar diez mil dólares."
La adaptación española:
"Cada programa es una gala de tres horas con actuaciones musicales y un debate después."

It has happened at work that I do something and people are like "wow you HAVE to give a talk on this" and I'm thinking it won't take longer than 5 minutes.

But indeed I should give more talks on stuff. There really is a lot of knowledge I take for granted but most people haven't been exposed to.

One of the challenges of imparting information, is not understanding what basics the person you're teaching may have.

Things a skilled person does by rote and doesn't even acknowledge they do for a task is an aha moment for a student.

Shower thought: thanks to having worked on Google+, now I know what kind of symptoms I get when I'm burning out so I can stop whatever I'm doing before I damage myself more.

Most people don't know what burnout feels like for them so they keep exposing themselves to it.

Saw hackaday.com/2025/09/17/i... and remembered that, some 10 years ago, I put two pieces of aluminum foil in a book with a few pages in between, connected them to a multimeter, and showed that I had built a 1.569 nF capacitor.

And then I could change the capacity by pressing on the book cover.

Two trapezoidal pieces of aluminum foil next to the book I used for the experiment: "Grob's Basic Electronics"

One piece tucked under some pages, another on top. The tips poke out so they can be gripped by alligator clips.

A multimeter that's connected to this contraption shows 1.569 nanofarads.

Remember that microprocessors at the time were crazy expensive and you had to jump through hoops to get samples.

6502 was the opposite, hence "grab one from the jar".

Legend says that yields weren't great and they didn't have that many chips, so the bottom of the jar was packed with broken chips.

Happy birthday to the MOS 6502! It was 50 years ago today that people were able to buy their first samples of the chip from a jar in a hotel room at WESCON.

Here's my oldest 6502 from the 52nd week of 1975. Still works perfectly!
