I know this is a pithy post, but the replies and quotes don’t seem to actually understand that SU is the best comms school and these degrees are basically a specialization of more trad programs (production, marketing, etc.) with highly transferable skills

Do not pay $100,000 to become a podcaster for the love of god

Syracuse University, which costs $100,000 per year, has opened a school to give degrees in podcasting and social media influencing 🫥

why do people copyedit the job wiki comments (sorry to gripe about my RSS, but honestly)

Ya know, even setting political affiliations and positions aside, this is such a ridiculous way of communicating with your constituents.
Email from Rep. Marlin Stutzman of Indiana. A survey that reads:

I want to know where you stand.

Do you oppose the shutdown, want regular pay for our troops, and want the government to return to full operational capacity? OR Do you support closing the government until illegals receive free healthcare, farmers have less assistance, and yor have to pay more taxes?
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE SHUTDOWN?
Please choose one below:
• I want our troops paid, government open, and the shutdown over.
• I want to pay for free healthcare for ilegals, benefits for farmers cut, and the government to continue to stay closed.
• I am undecided and want more information on the shutdown in future newsletters.

I had only ever heard it one way and then heard Reeves and Winter do an NPR interview and pronounce it another way without flinching and I couldn’t believe it. Had no idea there was another way!

I’m wondering if the answer to this is effectively nowhere, in the sense of no centralized listserv. You’ll hear things if you’re registered directly with whatever organization or committee.

Where are people getting musicology announcements now? CFPs, fellowships, etc. It seems like AMS's move to this career center thing has nothing (maybe bc of pay-to-post?). I still get MUSICOLOGY-ALL, but I hear nothing anymore from North America. Where is that happening now?

Atsuko is the best, time and again. (Also several huge disappointments signing on with this festival, but also several completely unsurprising ones who were already disappointing.)

The song just demonstrates a confirmation of or a direct counter-example of about half a dozen concepts from the article. I love it when students find amazing connections like this.

Teaching Nicole Biamonte's MTO article, "Formal Functions of Metric Dissonance in Rock Music," tomorrow for my analysis class and my student leader for the day is going to use Laufey's "Lover Girl" as a case study, and it's like this song was written with the article in mind. Fantastic.

Also, re: vaccines, I as an able-bodied person was able to get a COVID vaccine super easily last weekend. That may change, but the pharmacists at the CVS I went to in Indiana were asking *everyone* if they wanted to get it while I was there. Three people picking up scrips did. Bless the pharmacists.

So yes, revisiting old vaccines is a bad omen, but from my standpoint as a parent of littles, an important nuance and insightful stat are totally swamped out by this headline’s seemingly deliberate, inflammatory phrasing
But committee did vote 8-3 that the
combined measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (MMRV) vaccine is got recommended before age 4. They said children in this age group should receive the measles, mumps and rubella, or MMR, vaccine separately from the varicella vaccine. Varicella is the virus that causes chickenpox. About 85% of children currently get the
MMR and chickenpox vaccines separately for their first dose, according to data collected by the CDC. About 15% of kids get a single dose of the combination MMRV vaccine.

Making space on my phone and found this old video I cobbled together and I still have no idea if Mahler actually knew the Schumann, but it’s definitely the same

Few things as thrilling in cfb as the “WOO!” after “GOOOOD OL’ ROCKY TOP”

It's all work, but it's a lot of fun to get page proofs and go through and really see how it'll look in the end. The kind of payoff you need once most of the work is done for your part of the team effort of publishing.

First time I went and tracked down the original “Tennessee Whiskey” by George Jones after loving the Chris Stapleton version, I almost fell off my chair. (Both are great but whew.)
garrt.bsky.social
does anyone have a favorite cover that is VERY different in its musical characteristics from the original?

I know no prof is losing their job because this crank gimmick cost a bunch of money, but man this shit is stupid and really hardens me against college sports more and more. UO is cutting a bunch of programs but cool stunt I guess
jacquesdupuis.bsky.social
Miraculously, this actually worked for me. Weird. Seems so spammy or fake.

It's Cockney rhyming slang, explained in this video. Cheadle's accent is famously bad, but that's an interesting little subtle writing moment.
