The same headache that every home I’ve lived in has given me is the use of drywall anchors to mount towel fixtures (rings, hooks, rods, etc.). Find a dang stud, would you?

The Never Ending Pasta Bowl doesn’t.
Kind of astounding that Olive Garden has never sponsored a bowl game

Dimon on why JPMorgan Chase is not funding WH Ballroom:
We have an issue, which is anything we do, since we do a lot of contracts with governments here and around the world, we have to be very careful how anything is perceived, and also how the next DOJ is going to deal with it.

More and more often colleagues ask if I as a humanist use genAI and I always flatly and without flinching say, “No. Never.” Honestly, having it clean up an email or whatever, I don’t care if you do that. But this? I will never do this. Ever. I don’t care what the circumstances are.
This sucks; what are we even doing?

take your pick of Jimmy Cliff songs to listen to in celebration of his life. it'll be a good one.

Have watched NOMADLAND probably six or seven times (I teach it) and never noticed this. Zhao directed ETERNALS, which came out the year after. Interesting!

I’ve never given so many caveats and hedged so much on teaching as I did today in my film music class when I introduced against the grain readings. It’s so exhausting.

Thinking back on a paper at AMS-SMT about Kiarostami’s Taste of Cherry. Fully half of of Qs were prefaced “I haven’t seen this, but…” and one even asked about the sets for the movie. Was baffled then, still baffled why you’d ask a Q if you know nothing about the subject. (There are no sets.)

On the topic of bad pedagogy philosophies/concepts, this weekend at AMS-SMT a speaker on a pedagogy panel earnestly invoked learning styles as a guiding concern, and if you don’t know, that’s an unfounded and unsupported theory, so careful talking about visual and kinesthetic or whatever learners.
