Anyway, the tl;dr to take away from all this is a thing I have been repeating for ages, which is that extremism symbols function on a plausible-deniability basis. People who use them 100% rely on normal people going "I had no idea, so maybe he didn't either."

I think @theradr.bsky.social explained it best when she said that the excuse of "rooting out antisemitism" for violent state action is just another way of setting up Jews to take the blame for the excesses of the powerful (in this case, violent Islamophobia)

I couldn't get enough of the Foundation and Robot serieses as a child and when I tried to return to it a few years ago it was completely unreadable. It's sort of sad? But also, now we have Martha Wells and Elizabeth Bear so it's not _that_ sad.

A lot of biological/biomedical research starts out as something like "stick 1,000 new chemicals individually on 100 different kinds of bacteria and see what happens". The theory/mechanism come later.
