Here to share thoughts about what I'm studing, working on, reading and seeing. All views my own.
From the Cronulla riots to the Lindt Cafe siege, resilience & compassion have defined Sydney, not violence and hatred.
Sending thoughts to those affected by last night's terror, especially Sydney's Jewish community.
It's not acts of violence that define Sydneysiders, but how we respond. #sydney

My thoughts and sympathies are with all those impacted by the horrendous scenes unfolding in Bondi.
Over the next days and weeks, we will learn a lot more. At this stage we know very little - hoping we can all lead with kindness and wait for the facts to emerge in due course. #auspol

Deeply concerning developments. Empirical research remains the gold standard for a reason yet it is becoming easier and easier to question or misuse findings. We need to do more to ensure people know what 'evidence' really is. #academicsky #empiricalmethod theconversation.com/the-united-s...
The United States CDC has abandoned science in its new advice about vaccines and autism
The CDC website used to state, clearly and correctly, that the evidence shows no link between vaccines and the development of autism.

An interesting read. However, we also need to consider how and what we teach young people, boys in particular, to support them to be digitally literate and therefore able to identify the traps they are falling into. stories.theconversation.com/how-boys-get...

Just rewatched Billy Elliot at the #britishfilmfestival - can't believe it's 25 years since this was released! Still one of my all-time favourite films!

Between this and the reforms allowing the cancellation of welfare payments for those ACCUSED of serious crimes, December 2025 is indicating a worrying #socialpolicy direction for the Albanese govt #auspol

This is essential reading. To cancel income support based on an arrest warrant—without a charge, conviction or court appearance— feels ideology-driven, not evidence-based, echoing the punitive logic of Robodebt. We must demand better.

With a sneaky tweak, the government has made welfare recipients guilty until proven innocent
The government’s laws cancelling social security payments for some accused of crimes turn a safety net into a weapon for punishing people.
