When I was very small and went to school in fall ’81, I had an assignment to draw my favorite memory from the past summer. I drew (a very simple, long-lost version of) this image. My teacher came over and said “Is that Indiana Jones?!” She proceeded to tell me how cool that was, and gave me an A. 👍🏼

Yes! If you’re in a “creative” field (maybe true for other fields, I wouldn’t know) the WORST thing you can do for your career is to stay home, avoid events, pass on attending parties, etc. The friends you happen to make today WILL BECOME the people who hire you (or at least work with you) tomorrow.
Talking to one of these types at a con who asked how I 'got in' with so many 'famous writers' who I'd been talking to and I said "we made friends before anyone knew who we were decades ago by striking up interesting conversations and enjoying each other's company" and he kept re-asking the question.
They have come to the convention hoping to "break in" and then find themselves -- shocker! -- a "nobody in the book world." Yeah no shit! We all are! I have gently told guys like this a million times that it takes most of us *years* of hard work but they do not believe that could be true for them. +

The TV remote my great-uncle (grand-uncle?) had when I was small: an RCA "Victor" single-button unit which used sound to switch your TV on or off. It was released in the 50s, but he still had one when I was little… and I have vague memories of playing with it, thinking it was absolutely magical. 🥹

If you like Fraser and thoughtful scifi, I recommend this sequel (start with part 1 if you're new). I admit I'm partial to this franchise as I'm mentioned (twice!) in part 1—but I promise I get nothing from it (other than pride)! 😀 A mind-bending ride w/complex ethical questions. @robertjsawyer.com

The city of “St. Louis” exists in NO county at all. To make things weirder, there is also a “St. Louis County” which does NOT contain St. Louis city.
Are there cities besides New York that contain counties instead of the other way around? (Or cities, like San Francisco, that are counties?)
