So Gemini is better than you think. At 1pm it said KC already won the Superbowl. πŸ™ƒ g.co/bard/share/3...

I was wrong. Gemini as assistant does have Google Home controls. And with the recent fix no longer requires tapping submit after voice input, which was awkward at first.

I knew I had made the wrong choice this week at 4am, when I had chosen to distinguish prod from dev by choosing the _light_ theme for prod in Portainer!

On the other hand, after Sundar's investor call recently about 100M Google One subscribers it satisfies the pressure to monetize, in what has been a catch up AI arms race. Some not so subtle hints in the blog post about safety considering the recent internal drama at OpenAI and ChatGPT data leaks

Anyone else find it odd to launch Gemini Advanced subscriptions through Google One during a first consumer branded launch like this? By offering it in place of Google Assistant, some people will be trying it for the 1st time. So do they know its limits enough to want to pay for premium yet?

But how will I now manage to do the things I used to do in assistant from Gemini, since it doesn't have things like Home control? That's okay. How many of you just go to the Home app half the time because voice is often more difficult to use to turn off a light late at night than just tapping?

Everyone had to undue muscle memory and learn a new way to call assistant (holding down the power button) instead of clicking the microphone… for the MANY times you don’t want to say Hey Google because of being in public or just waking up too many devices at home.

This primed me to say yes 2 gemini

It should also be noted that they recently frustrated Android users by replacing the Microphone action in the Google Search bar from launching old Google Assistant to launching Google Search, and dropping some voice features from Google Assistant in general.

So now there are 3 experiences to befuddle the android user

1. Google Assistant (upgradable to Gemini)
2. Google Search
3. Gemini Proper

Have you enabled it in Assistant? Oddly, I had to install the gemini app, only for it to tell me it wasn't available but that I could enable it for assistant

That's the only time I remember as well, Justin. I am always copying Youtube urls related to work to my personal google account to avoid ads.

However, I think you should go with lower case "it" because otherwise someone may think it's about forking IT. Which sounds like a podcast I would start :), but not the one you intend.

I also had picked the orange on the bottom left. I also had considered suggesting a rotation because of the nature of forking. But everyone is right it looks better upright.

1M users = load balancer, ~3 app VMs, 3 DB servers (for redundancy not scale)

10M users = 2 Lbs, 5 app VMs, 3 bigger DB servers

People underestimate how much you can do with under 10 VMs

The current v1 Bluesky system is designed to scale to 1M users. And today we're going to hit 1M users!

We will, of course, keep pushing things and *try* to smoothly transition to the v2 Bluesky system later this year. It's designed for >10M users.

We just have to finish building the v2 system!
