My life mission is to encourage 8 billion humans & the powerful AIs to adopt the Sentientism worldview: "evidence, reason and compassion for all sentient beings" - thereby solving all the world's problems :)

Is the essence of your family celebration really the consumption of dead sentient beings?

Your supermarkets seem to think so.

If we resist “might makes right” ethics and epistemology when used against human sentients, let’s also resist it when used against non-human sentients.

Religion and non-religion both lead to the same conclusion -- if God made them sentient, we shouldn't harm them. If this world is all there is and they just happened by some extraordinary combination of circumstances to become sentient, we shouldn't harm them!!

So many, otherwise great, thinkers destroy their own credibility by talking about their views on non-human animal ethics.

Others destroy their credibility by never talking about it at all.

Isn’t this exactly the sort of thinking that we criticise among the #Conspirituality / MAGA crowds?

“As a meat eater I deny the suffering of the animals I eat. I kind of put that away somewhere and don’t think about it while I enjoy a tasty steak.”

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

In a world of people who cared consistently about non-human animals, vegans wouldn’t be seen as heroes or role models. They’d just be seen as normal.

I find it oddly dissonant when pro philosophers / public intellectuals talk about vegetarianism as a moral response to the horrors of animal exploitation.

I think they mean veganism, but they seem to have “vegetarian” as a strong language default.

What’s going on here?

A 10-year-old girl immediately answered, “Because we have feelings.”

We all know that, while we need to wear clothes, we don’t need to wear a fur coat.

Just as, while we need to eat and drink, we don’t need to eat or drink animal products.

Ethics is so easy 🤷‍♂️

It's 2025 & prominent environmental thinkers are still talking as though fossil fuels are the only problem & humans are the only victims.

The catastrophic impacts of animal agriculture don't get a mention. Nor do the obvious solutions of plant-based agriculture & the resulting land use change.
What a brilliant launch evening for The Growth Story of the 21st Century by Professor Lord Nicholas Stern! 🎆
