If we resist “might makes right” ethics and epistemology when used against human sentients, let’s also resist it when used against non-human sentients.

Imagine someone adopts the #Sentientism worldview: “evidence, reason, and compassion for all sentient beings”.

What impacts will there be on them as an individual and on the wider world - over time?

"If you’re a liberal and you think the fundamental political task is to stop tyranny… then the animal question just seems to be obvious… It’s the most blatant example of the unaccountable exercise of power…"

Inspired by the latest episode of @ourhenhouse.org and by all my wonderful guests!

I prefer @sentientism.bsky.social, a non-religious worldview, but whatever it takes!

As Wicked: For Good hits theaters today, it's important not to ignore the root of Elphaba’s supposed wickedness: her horror at the mistreatment of animals and her determination to free them.
How did Elphaba become wicked? There’s a hidden message people keep missing.
The treatment of animals in the real world is far stranger — and crueler — than in Wicked.

Two things I’m confident are robustly positive in the face of epistemic and moral uncertainty:

1) Naturalistic “evidence & reason” understanding of reality

2) Sentiocentric “compassion for all sentient beings” moral scope.

"There was no golden age of public knowledge, no moment at which the information most people received was largely unbiased and accurate."

As such, let's help everyone become far less susceptible to believing misinformation by improving their epistemology.

Yep #EpistemologyMatters, but it's sorely neglected. Just caring others and about the world isn't enough. You also need to understand the world well. Using evidence and reason is the best way.

That's why the #Sentientism worldview is "evidence, reason, and compassion for all sentient beings."

In a worldviews workshop this morning I asked a group of 60 kids: “Why do we care about humans?”

A 10-year-old girl immediately answered, “Because we have feelings.”

Yep 👍

When did you last think about your worldview?
Most people rarely think about their worldview.

That’s fine if it’s a good worldview.

But it’s dangerous if it’s a bad one.
