I think it depends on the context. I think it being less personal is what they’re going for. They want something friendly and not to informal (like”folks”)

The “right”, by creating so many bastardized versions of the flag (the blue line flag etc.) have ceded the real flag to the real patriots IMO.

Many people who work in the service industry have been using “friend”. I first noticed its prevalence at Disney theme parks.

I used to have coworkers who were Brits. Most thought brexit was a bad idea except one guy who I liked a lot. I was amazed that he was for it. But most Brits were back then I guess
