They collectively don't believe in danger, they don't understand it, because it constantly omitted them and those families that had a political conscience repatriated and stopped being Ashkenazim and became Israeli.

It is a special breed of Ashkenazim ☺️ I appreciate their existence, because thanks to them I can play Yiddish songs to my kid. The Barry Sisters and such. That being said and Chiribim Chiribom aside: politically you cannot expect anything from them as a community.

Everyone is pretty snappy and annoyed in Kyiv today. Actually a big deal, this does not seem to be an especially unusual air raid night.. but it hit most people hard. Don't know why. I'm staying positive, but my positivity-juice is almost empty 😁

The Hetmanate has traded the freedom of their people for the right to colonize what is now Kuban. We also tend to skip over that part, but I am personally painfuly aware of this chapter in our history. It was not "empty land", the colonization was as brutal as any ru campaign. Not quite, although it has been the Soviet narrative that portrayed Pereyaslav as "Ruš" reunification and skipped over inconvenient details. Nevertheless, Khmelnytsky is on our money ☺️ but.. it is IMO very different: Ichkers are terrified of ru. The second war was basically interrupted genocide.

The way I see it, they now are at a crossroads and probably will shut down this NEP2 and recollectivise. They are already aggressively rolling back privatisation; their agrarian sector is fucked and some strategic industries already instated 3 day workweek. So old strategy and danger may come back.

That being said: I wouldn't fear the US, they have what I call Geopolitical ADHD. On the other hand ruskies already were poor and "weak" while dominating Europe. It's the Gendarme of Europe. Raw resources to export, low tech and poor as dirt, but willing to kill millions of own peasants for a goal.

So it's fringe because "the mainland" does not roll out a "welcome back" carpet? So the logic is: we are citizens, maybe some day we and DC will get representation, no sense to exchange that for another nothing burger. And political resentment is channeled into an independence movement. Correct?

And how does it compare to movements for independence?

I know, that the movement to get US State status is strong, but never had the support needed in the US.

Many Khazakh still bleach their faces, 30 years after independence. Another 30 years of USSR and Latvians would be a minority in Latvia. And what the westerners never accept, although there are documents to prove it, is the fact that Holodomors were an ethnic cleansing by design. I can go on..

I'll always remember the Hakhas dude I met in Abakan in the early 2010s. Hakhas look like a mix between Koreans and Mongols and he was adamant in his "ja rusky" message, loathing the fact that his grandma sang lullabies "in that barbaric dialect".

More methodical 😊 I wouldn't underestimate moskaus' capacity, they just rewrite history to cover up their "wins". The language of Novgorod was further away from the moskau dialect they've renamed to "rushan" than Dutch from German. Kazan was a non Slavic Khanate, Hanty and Mansi were Hungaric etc.
