In this centennial week, I have been publishing some correspondence with William F. Buckley Jr. This is for the pleasure -- "delectation," Bill might say -- of my friends and readers (who overlap). It is also for Bill. And, well, me. www.jaynordlinger.com/p/life-with-...

In a store, I said to the cashier -- an older lady -- "Happy Thanksgiving." She said, "Happy holidays to you, too." I don't think this was "political correctness." I think it is simply ingrained on the American tongue. (Maybe it can become un-ingrained.)

Spurred by the Buckley centennial, I have been publishing some correspondence between us. If you had forgotten what Bill Buckley was like, you'll be reminded. If you never knew him (in any fashion) -- you'll love him. Here is Part III. www.jaynordlinger.com/p/life-with-...

It was an honor to talk with this elegant, strong lady. She became an activist — full-time — when the Chinese dictatorship threw her sister into their gulag. The persecution of the Uyghurs — which is genocide by acknowledged measures — is a worldwide emergency.
RDI Frontline Fellow Rushan Abbas joins RDI Senior Fellow @jaynordlinger.bsky.social on the latest episode of FOFCON Pod.

Rushan speaks out on China’s repression and the fight for Uyghur freedom—and answers the critical question: what must democracies, and ordinary people, do?

From Kevin D. Williamson, an opening sentence that will linger in the memory: "More drag queens, sure, but fewer slaves -- the moral trajectory of Western civilization is not *entirely* in the direction of failure, you know." Essay altogether: 👍. thedispatch.com/newsletter/w...

In the last several years, something weird has happened: the verb “to malign” has been misunderstood as “to criticize” — as in a sports article I read this morning: “But a previously maligned Cowboys defense denied the Eagles points on eight straight possessions.” Do something!

At the Metropolitan Opera, activists disrupted a performance of “Carmen” in order to protest David Koch (who died in 2019). What deserves protest is that production of “Carmen,” which is alien to the opera that Bizet wrote. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/22/a...

Mrs. Clinton began her political involvement as a "Goldwater Girl." Obviously, she still has some Goldwater in her -- maybe more than the Republican Party and broad swaths of the American Right do. History is interesting (all too).
With his ultimatum that Ukraine surrender to Russia, Trump finally wins a prize:

The Neville Chamberlain award for betraying peace, freedom, and justice.

Maybe someone could tell me: When it comes to the Ukraine war, and the struggle of Ukrainians to keep their country, what is the difference between the position of Vance, Orbán, et al., and that of Putin and the Kremlin, i.e., the aggressor? I don't see "daylight."

There is an old, familiar phrase: "the anatomy of a lie." I see how Trump and his people have implanted the lie that Zelensky and the Ukrainians are ungrateful for American aid. This lie lives in the breasts, and on the tongues, of millions. Amazing, and infuriating.
