Nationals are so out of touch they don’t realise we’ve moved on from #NetZero to #RealZero - real emissions cuts that reduce risk of rural wildfires, floods & crop failures, at same time as opening new industry opportunities for their electors.

While I’m disappointed there is no climate trigger - by far our most dangerous risk - I applaud @MurrayWatt landing new enviro laws that faithfully reflect the Graeme Samuel review.

While lazy journalists laud “a big win for Australia” ⁦‪@cathywilcox1‬⁩ nails the critical analysis of the critical minerals deal.
Our “friend & ally” the US has used bullying & intimidation - threats of tariffs etc to countries, & shockingly even threats of visa cancellations to delegates - to delay a vitally important mechanism designed to clean up shipping emissions.

Huge thanks to all the volunteers who’ve put so much into preparing this weekend’s South Coast Jazz Festival at Goolwa. Such a privilege for me just to turn up and play. Lucky!

If you’re going to write about #COP30 & the climate crisis, please understand “green zone” implementation is now the main game, not the sideshow. Multilateral agreements are largely done. Focus now on how we get there.

Not enough questions re AUKUS subs on whether they’ll be useful when they finally arrive or whether they’ll be sitting ducks vulnerable to swarms of underwater drones.

According to the article: “ITER’s primary technical goal is to demonstrate fusion power at commercial scale. The reactor aims to produce 500 megawatts of fusion power from 50 megawatts of input power—a tenfold return that would prove fusion’s viability as an energy source.”
Never forget that every “canonisation” is an insult to those who accept the scientific method; it demands validation of 2 “miracles”.
It’s voodoo tradition that should have ended with Galileo Galilei.
“In fact, freedom is in danger of degenerating into mere arbitrariness unless it is lived in terms of responsibleness. That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast.” Dr Viktor E. Frankl.

If you have any claim to integrity & consistent ethics, you must cancel Snoop Dogg.
He launches a slur re same-sex parents & you give him the biggest paid platform of the year.
Meanwhile slurs by players are publicly punished.
Wake up Andrew Dillon.
We’re busy researching alternatives for mitigating South Australia’s coastal algal bloom, but nature is doing its own thing. A significant amount of clay has washed down from the Port Willunga cliffs into the ocean. Result: very few dead marine creatures on the beach this afternoon.

This sand battery looks great for heating buildings and industrial processes.
But round-trip conversion losses would make it impractical as a replacement for current grid-level batteries, unless there are vast amounts of excess renewables available intermittently.
