1/2 Mayhem around the cottage just now as the corvids were gathering to roost.
Just before dark, a Peregrine was launching attacks on the flocks. Here's the bird slowed down - the only time that I managed to isolate it as it circled the garden.

A previously unknown species of hawk-cuckoo has been described from Borneo. The newly recognised taxa was previously considered a population of Dark Hawk-Cuckoo, which is found in Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia. Bornean birds principally differ from that species (and the closely related Large Hawk-Cuckoo) by their unique three-syllabled main song.

After 8 years & 400 Black-headed Gulls caught & ringed at Center Parcs Sherwood, on Saturday we had our first ever control. Not got the full details yet but we do know it was ringed in June 2003 making it 22 years old.

Ringed under BTO licence.

2: Skuas often get a bad reputation because they steal food from other seabirds or sometimes prey on their 🐥. But… they do it to feed their own adorable baby 💛!

This is why I advise in The Language of Climate Politics that saying we’re better off now than we were before the Paris Agreement only lowers urgency & helps fossil fuel interests: the IMPACTS of lower levels of heating are proving to be so much worse than we thought even just ten years ago.

of this heat in the climate system —what are blandly known as the "impacts" of climate change-should also be considered. And what the extreme weather already emerging across the globe, as well as the latest research, suggests is something quite frightening: the way our climate system is responding even to low levels of warming indicates that a 3°C world might look very much like the 4°C or 5°C world it had seemed like we had avoided. This is not to say that scientists have failed to predict what is happening in some way-their projections of how much the planet will warm at rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have been entirely accurate-it is only to say that the extremes caused by warming are emerging on the worse side of the range of possible outcomes. As water cycle."103 Over the next decades Europe would cool substantially —England would end up looking like northern Canada, but stormier-and the heat that would no longer be transported to the North Atlantic would end up staying in the trop-ics, turning densely populated cities into saunas where people simply could not live.104 Global food supply would be severely threatened because Europe would dry out and the tropical rain belt would move south, weakening the African and Asian monsoons.105 Meanwhile, sea level rise would accelerate over the East Coast of the United States, potentially stranding many billions in real-estate value.106 As one author of the Danish study put it: "The implications would be devastating in terms of our ability to carry on living the way we do now,
