THREAD. Did you know that at about 1/3 of all stranger homicides in the U.S. are perpetrated by police? But there's something hidden here that is important to understand in this authoritarian moment.

Definitely bring snacks and more than snacks.. The train will have a cafe car that let’s you get something more substantial but they may sell out of that thing you want, so nest to not rely on it.

Of course, it’s hard to say without knowing the thickness of the crust, as it’s not actually linear, but in my experience smaller pizzas also tend to have thicker crusts too.

Wrong, the 6” slice gives you more crust, which is worse.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

The traditional fifth anniversary gift is wood, so Dũng got me a board game that is 100% wood - even the box.
The game Hexapolis, in a wooden hex box with stacks of wooden hex pieces. Our finished game state, with Dũng’s piece on a tall 4 tower surrounded by walls, with various other connected hexes. Dũng crossed arms visible in the background.

The fact that Wikipedia uses the same Tennessee Capital example for all voting methods is really not good. Like, I get why they do, but because that example has a Condorcet winner, it's not very good at explaining how Condorcet methods work.

Oh, interesting one! Might be trickier this early in the year, but it could still work.

I'm currently working on a new geometry game and could use some brainstorming help. Suppose I wanted a list of properties some shapes have that others don't, like "Has a right angle" or "Has a pair of congruent sides." What might be some interesting other properties?

The classic swap to 40% of 45, which is 2/5s, so two 9s, so 18.

Well, you can have verse novels, like the Black Flamingo.

Yeah, in the history of the calculator we switched from relays to vacuum tubes for this exact reason.

(This kind of reminds me of how apportionment used to happen, before we locked in at 435 - they always picked a House size that agreed in both the Hamilton method and the Jefferson/Webster method.)

I wonder if anyone's proposed a meta-level election system, where you run the results through multiple systems and whoever wins in the most different systems is the overall winner.

I feel like the morning sessions, with their continuity, were always the standout.
