🌟 Thrilled to share that my lab’s first publication is now out in @natmetabolism.nature.com. Congrats to the team 🎉

🧠 We discovered that neurons use endogenous fatty acids as an energy fuel, challenging long-standing models of sugars being the exclusive energy source for neurons. 1/3

Genotype-phenotype data from over 450,000 people was analyzed to discover 205 genomic loci where an allele associated with increase adiposity was associated with a lower cardiometabolic disease risk to an individual, according to a paper in Nature Medicine. go.nature.com/4pDuTKP #medsky 🧬 🧪
This is figure 3, which shows the association of genetic risk scores with disease outcomes in the UK Biobank.

A study in Nature Metabolism shows that the combination of glucose and fructose, as found in sugar-sweetened beverages, promotes colorectal cancer metastasis through a mechanism involving sorbitol dehydrogenase (SORD). go.nature.com/3IaPoO9 #medsky 🧪
This is figure 2, which shows glucose and fructose together activate the SORD reverse reaction, elevating sorbitol and NAD+/NADH ratios.
