Opinion | Trump claims the U.S. will ‘run’ Venezuela. What’s the plan?
The raid to nab Maduro was brilliantly executed. The aftermath could get extremely messy.

Around half of global semiconductor fab capacity is out of Taiwan.

It's so important to the world economy that invading it would fuck up the entire planet's economy and cause massive economic pain to virtually every country and economic sector.

🧵Hope everyone realizes that China invading Taiwan would be far worse than Trump seizing Venezuela.

Venezuela only produces like 2% of world oil output, and there's plenty of idle capacity elsewhere.

So it's pretty much irrelevant otherwise to the rest of the world's economy.

But Taiwan...

I’m beginning to think that we might actually have gotten played by the Venezuelan government as a way to get Maduro out in a way that alienated the opposition and galvanized support for the government.

Venezuelan oil is some of the worst oil in the world.

It's so hard to extract and refine that prices need to be upwards of $80-$90 a barrel for it to even be worth it.

Currently oil is $60 a barrel.

You think US companies will be able to jump right in & pump?

Trump is insane and a dumbshit.

The US is now responsible for the governance of Venezuela. Toppling the regime of a smaller country is always the easy part. The hard part is what comes after. Neo-cons always expect a pro-US nirvana. It rarely works out. But I suppose the oil companies can seize some assets.
