I think people across the political spectrum feel some existential dread when it comes to robots, AI.

Imagine ICE with this capability:

That sowing of distrust is leaders' purpose is depressing.

Society changes so fast now, there are two (if not more) diverging paths our nations can take.

So there is an info war in progress. That should be made explicit.

Maybe GOP / authoritarian Trump wants to save the union?

2/ This is what privacy and data protections (and MAGA Republicans) are challenging. I think it's why tech barons like Peter Thiel says the digital control grid is the anti-Christ.

By the time most people feel the impact of this tech in their lives, rolling it back will be less possible.

1/ And when AI is added, it means wrongful arrests, charges, convictions.

I was a victim of this in Ontario in 2020. Google algorithms are still figuring things out, arguing "we suspect CSAM" to make privacy violations palatable, and even necessary.

“It's not quite mind-reading in the sense of your complex thoughts and the images in your mind." Professor Nita Farahany, author of “The Battle for Your Brain,” joins public radio’s “All Sides” to discuss brain tracking tech and the need to protect human mental privacy.

"”The more we push this research forward, the more transparent our brains become," [Nita] Farahany says, adding that measures to protect people's mental privacy are lagging behind technology that decodes signals in the brain.”

Any democrat that talked like this about republican areas would be hounded from office within a month.
A month at most.

This encyclical came out today. It's like Pope Francis and Pope Leo understand who the historical Jesus is / was. Catholics haven't always been encouraged to read the Bible but the Magisterium is on a roll with Francis and now Leo.

Yes. I recall when Pope Francis made changes to Opus Dei - the Prelate is no longer automatically a Bishop, they report to the Dicastry for Priests, not the Dicastry for Bishops and were reminded of their charism - work as a path to holiness.

My first thought was “wow I hope this guy didn’t give out his name because he could absolutely be charged” and yup, he is correct to stay anonymous.

This man’s account is shocking. His neighbors’ situation is shocking. The entire Chicago raid is shocking.
On the other side was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for his help.
"I wasn't planning on letting her stay, but I didn't know what the hell was going on," the man said of his Venezuelan migrant neighbors. But he quickly relented. The little girl was inconsolable and hid under his bed.
"I didn't want them to take her," said the man, who didn't want to be named because he fears he'll be targeted by federal authorities for his actions.
"I gave her my bedroom, and I just told her,
'Just stay there. Don't open, don't, shh, just stay quiet," he recalled telling the mom and daughter as he choked back tears.

Here is the 2nd text. Christopher knew I was in danger, but nothing could be done. I was arrested & charged because priests wanted revenge. The charge was withdrawn b/c I caved to threats + coercion, to save my life. I am still furious everyday.

I wonder where his sense of Christ (conscience, consciousness) is at? A therapist shared Ken Wilber's metatheories with me to help understand conservative patriarchal authoritarian tribalism.

These guys HATE white women. I was also arrested in January, 2021 for the crime of being too uppity with conservative priests.

And yep, I still carry a lot of anger that Ontario Catholics just shrug, act surprised, do nothing.🔽

I think traumatizing people is the point. They enjoy abusing power.
This is an screenshot of a text message from a Roman Catholic theologian and academic who is interested in the rights of the lay apostolate, and their relationship to the hierarchy. He says that when lay people get uppity we are often slapped down.

Same for Canada. Civil servants should face public consequences so they think twice about their actions.

This is a perfect example of people who are paid by the taxpayers - the city and county representatives who fired her -- should be, in their contracts, responsible for any financial burden that occurs under their leadership in said public office.

Might make them think twice about their actions.

I’m interested in talking to a federal agency scientist who was fired, then rehired. I can keep you anonymous. I’m on Signal ginnyg.04

I bet MPPs would respond to well-written submissions from parents rather than have board meetings become social media influencer fodder, for snarky commentary that drives engagement but doesn't present the whole picture.
I'd be glad to see our info ecosystem get cleaned up.
