"Do something useful with this stick I'm beating you with or I will be forced to beat this dead horse instead."

Okay, dude.
I know we're all seeing 87 unhinged things per day, but "guys if our multi billion dollar product doesn't start being useful for something, literally anything, the people might not appreciate us wrecking the planet over it anymore" is a truly bananapants thing to say out loud
Delicious to me

Yes. This.
A day will come when Donald Trump no longer dominates our politics.

Even though this is obvious, it’s hard to keep in mind.

The future will belong to those who can think clearly about what happens next.

This woman's cries have carved something out of me and made me really, really raw in a way I can't describe. I'm furious. I'm so damn furious.

This reminds me of the Amy Poehler podcast conversation with Julia Louis-Dreyfus about how many pics they have on their phones. Except the 72k pics on my phone are all different angles of my cat.

Is this the script to the next season of The Diplomat? Ugh.
This isn’t exactly treason, but it’s edging close to the line.

I hope she knows that the government IS the people, and the ones who hold power are there by our will and consent, and when we no longer want them there, we will remove them from office because that's how this works.

No matter the form of government, tyrants always fall.

For the first time since September of 2023, the life of Rebecca Lukens isn’t playing out in my head and fighting for word count. What she bought. Who she hired. Work she did. Her fears, her debts, her hopes and failures. It's really strange to put the manuscript in someone else's hands.

Step 1) Privatize local hospital
2) Bankrupt hospital.
3) Close hospital.
4) St Luke's (or comp) swoop in.
5) Women and trans people lose care.

This is an important thread. It seems weirdly disrespectful to try to turn Kirk into something he clearly despised.
As someone who spent many hours listening to Kirk’s show on AM radio, I would say that he made Rush Limbaugh seem like Walter Cronkite by comparison, in terms of rhetorical tone and empirical rigor. The subtext of every show was “You don’t hate the left enough.”
My sense is that most Americans had not heard of Charlie Kirk until yesterday. The first and perhaps only thing they're going to hear about him from the most trusted and important voices in American politics is that he was a model and constructive participant in good-faith political discourse.

/4 But it’s perfectly reasonable to point out that the people who will wave the bloody shirt over this — the people who support Charlie Kirk — are evil hypocrites who endorse and excuse violence every day. Refraining from celebrating doesn’t mean tolerating bullshit.

You’re not wrong. At all. I just think people are also tired of being lectured about this. And that’s where a lot of the anger stems from, unfortunately, in the people’s feeds that are preaching it. Every single time a shooting happens — which happens alot now. Sigh.

Every time I see an Oval Office picture, I think "this is the commercial real estate version of what happens when car owners buy every plastic stick-on thing at Auto Zone."
Back in May, I documented the slow evolution of the Oval Office in Trump's second term. I figured it was time for an update — with an acknowledgement that these changes also serve as a metaphor.

First, the White House. Then, the country.
Let us consider the ongoing overhaul of the White House as a metaphor. A few months ago, back when I was at The Washington Post, I compiled a series of photos to show how the Oval Office had been slow...
