Indeed. If anything running campaigns for Masks has taught me, is you need to give the heroes a proper challenge matching their power level or else what's the point?

I agree with this wholeheartedly. Sure, people like Batman can get away with not having "super" supervillains, but I feel it's essentially the call and response of superhero storytelling. Like it or not, there's gotta be a balance between good and evil, even if good wins in the end.

I'm not saying you always need a villain, but your superhero should live in a world that -needs- a superhero. There have to be aliens or demons or general weirdness, otherwise it doesn't ring true, at least to me.
