Meanwhile, the @postguild.bsky.social is protesting and raising awareness about the fact that the Washington Post illegally fired me, its only Black woman opinion columnist, for doing my job.

Salute to the Guild.
Shame on the Post.

I profiled Azzi Fudd.

After all the injuries and doubt, and dealing with that as her life became more and more public, here's a story of getting back to once was — mentally, physically — then becoming even better: www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/...
Azzi Fudd was a can’t-miss basketball star. Then she had to prove it again.
Injuries and self-doubt nearly derailed a prodigy. Now in her final college season, she has rediscovered just how good she can be.

College ads, a staple of sports TV, are changing in response to Trump's attacks on higher ed.

Unis are replacing rah-rah spots w/ specific stories about how research improves life in their communities.

You know those university ads?

The ones with shots of the leafy quad + students looking into a microscope?

A lot of them look different this football season, focusing more on specific research initiatives.

And one reason why is the reason for a lot of things in this country.

An example:

On James Franklin, Virginia Tech and some of the money involved, including a confirmation of reports that he and Penn State settled for $9 million (and why he'd do that when $9 million is a much smaller number than $49 million): www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/...
Analysis | James Franklin is off to Virginia Tech. His $49 million payout shrank before that.
Penn State and Franklin negotiated his payout down to $9 million before he agreed to a deal with the Hokies, who plan to invest more in the football program.

Really enjoyed @jessedougherty.bsky.social's reflections on sportswriters also being fans.

I find it annoying when journalists ham up rooting for "their" team.

I also find it annoying when journalists are joyless about sports they cover.

What's the happy medium?

When you think of college football, you think of Saturday, right?

Then there are teams like ECU, which played four of its first seven games on Thursday night.

College football is a Saturday sport. But then there are those Thursday and Friday and sometimes Tuesday games you turn on because why not?

A fun story with @jessedougherty.bsky.social on how teams from smaller conferences try to grab TV eyeballs on weekdays.
