People seem blown away by the chapter in EVERYBODY LOSES about the VIP side of the sports betting business -- what's done to pamper the 2-3% of customers who account for 60-70% of revenue.

Lured by the promise of easy money, major league owners & politicians alike embrace online sports betting while ignoring its devastating impacts.

Worth reading: EVERYBODY LOSES shows how sportsbooks destroy the integrity of sports, harm athletes, and drivecountless people to gambling addiction.

For my book EVERYBODY LOSES, I spoke with people who've worked at The Ringer and feel "gross" about pushing their audience to place sucker bets at the behest of FanDuel.

I get the sense a lot of people in sports media feel the same.

Bill Simmons can be oddly silent—or, at best, tongue tied—when something bad happens involving gambling. I devoted a section to him and The Ringer in my new book, EVERYBODY LOSES, and am grateful that @defector.com published an excerpt today (no paywall):

I cannot wait to read this. Head to your local indie bookstore and get a copy. @dannyfunt.bsky.social's sports gambling coverage for @postsports.bsky.social has been some of the best in the industry, if not the best.
I wrote EVERYBODY LOSES (out today!) because I believe sports fans—and really all Americans—deserve answers to basic questions that the people behind the betting boom have largely avoided.

Doing interviews for EVERYBODY LOSES, I like to count how many times the findings from my book get a "WTF" or disbelieving head shake from the host. Got several out of @edgeofsports.bsky.social, who was very kind to have me on his podcast:
