And my story “I’m Not From Here” is one of them! I honestly can’t believe it. Just in short fiction alone, I’m sharing a list with Joe Lansdale, Josh Malerman, Paul Tremblay, AC Wise, Silvia Moreno-Garcia….

*faints*
Three of #WhisperHousePress ‘s short stories are on the recommended reading list from the #HWA. How neat is that?!

My perimenopause goblins short story is going to turning into something that starts with novel- and ends with at least -ette if not -la.

Took it from pad and paper to Scrivener today and cranked out 1200 words in no time.

My nails match my current read.

Both are awesome.

Yearly rewatch of “The Lost Boys.” I love vampires so damn much.

I really need to write a vampire book one day.

My controversial opinion is that expecting horror to scare you does a disservice to the huge swath of things under the umbrella of horror that are dark in tone, macabre, or otherwise Gothic.

In this essay, I wil-

I’m going to be trying to get #mychemicalromance tickets tomorrow.

Everybody cross your fingers for me. They are one of my favorite bands and I’ve never seen them live.

Wrote today.

Hadn’t put pen to paper in yearly three weeks, since a few days before school started.

With everything going on in the world right now, feels like bigger win than usual.

Then again, the story I started was about societal collapse so…

On the 1st week of school, I told myself I hoped to make time for writing by the second week of school.

2nd week, was still catching up with other to-do’s.

3rd week, oldest kid got sick and husband had carpal tunnel surgery.

Here’s hoping the 4th week is the charm.

You know why I like Bluesky?

When I come over here, it’s all writers and dogs and artists.

When I go over to Threads, it’s all drama.

Woohoo! I am officially an associate member of the #SFWA

Obvious next goal: sell enough stories (or write a book) and make it to full membership!

Subbed two stories today.

Hoping to find time tomorrow to (a) type up/edit some finished pieces or (b) actually write.

Both would be nice.

I hope you can subscribe or buy the issue and support Trollbreath, but if you can’t and want to read my weird little washing machine story, it will be free to read on November 14th.

Today I submitted my application for associate membership to the #SFWA and finally set up an author specific email so I can easily find my rejections/acceptances.

Yay for writerly adulting!

COSTS OF LIVING is out today from #whisperhousepress. If you’ve ever had a job that was simultaneously nightmarish and numbing, go get a copy and read my story “I’m Not From Here.” Read the rest and feel a sudden, despairing desire to move far away from all things suburban.

Aside from my story being in this TOC, every other author is amazing. @aimeeogdenwrites.com is a Nebula finalist, @bmorrisallen.com is the editor for @metaphorosis.com, the others all have more/bigger credits behind their names than I do. So grateful to be sharing space with such talented people.

Just completely forgot Bluesky exists for most the summer.

But Facebook reminded me by being absolutely terrible.

Went to my horror book club yesterday. Our July read I already own (WHEN THE WOLF COMES HOME by @natcassidy.bsky.social ) so I’m adding it to my vacation stack for a reread.

This will be the first time I’ve ever read a book 2x in a matter of months.

I’m never sure what to post as a writer, unless you want pictures of my notebooks and laptop screen. So, here is the art nearest my desk.

Linocut print by Patterned, hanging altar by Wild Fancy Designs, witch hands by Rebecca Chaperon.
