Interesting how even with the warmer temps, the water was still cold enough and still enough with low winds this morning to start to form a thin layer of ice in the Washington Channel:

@capitalweather.bsky.social odd but pretty winter weather on the Washington Channel

Boatsgiving and Parade of Lighted Boats! What boating adventures did you take part in this holiday season?

Lots of fun photos to check out in this post, including bald eagles and a new anchorage!

Happy Holidays!
Time has gotten away from me as it often does during the holiday season. That isn't a bad thing. Celebrating birthdays and holidays with friends and family in the winter builds excitement despite the cold weather, short days and long nights. First question: Did we get a Thanksgiving Cruise in? If you know me, you know that I've generally tried to cruise the Potomac during the Thanksgiving holiday every year for the past decade…

Dogs aren’t getting much of a walk in the DMV this Sunday evening. Wind chills currently zero to +5 degrees. Gotta bundle up, even if just taking out the garbage!

Definitely a #MetroMonday 🤦🫠

This may be the coldest night I recall on the boat. Wind at 16mph out of the NW and gusting near 30 mph.

Indoor it's over 40°F, toasty compared to outside. Using minimal heat so nothing freezes and to not stress the circuits. Will be happy to spend the next few days in the office 🥶.

@capitalweather.bsky.social it's so foggy out I can't see the Wharf buildings on the seawall from my boat slip 💀

I try to be grateful for the extra darkness this season, as I'm often given opportunities to see things I can never see at other times of the year:

As I traveled down the SW Waterfront @wmata.com escalator this morning I noticed a small companion was ahead of me: a DC rat!

He rode down patiently until he was about 5 steps from the bottom. There, he either turned around on the up escalator or hid somewhere out of site 😳.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by some of their most beloved specks!
Happy Specks Loving Other Specks
Another month has passed by. After the marathon, I had more fun with family, including a visit to the Museum of Illusions. My nephew really wanted to go. I was skeptical, but it was fantastic and I highly recommend it as a DC stop for parents of young children. The entire experience is interactive and educational. Kids will love it:

Am I a Marathoner Now?
On Sunday, 10/26/25 at 11:25am, I crossed the finish line of the 50th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). This was my second marathon. The first was the same race the previous year. Last year I signed up as an idea suggested by my sister. The MCM seemed like a great starter marathon and my niece, who is a marine, was also interested in running.

It's been a busy month. Here's a bunch of photos of fun things that we've done. Enjoy - and leave a comment if you have any questions.
Sept Photo Drop
Oh boy ... it's been a busy month. After our long cruise, there was a whiskey tasting, a fishing charter, and a fantastic concert (TV on the Radio). Then, last weekend there was camping in WV. Tonight I'm going to see Cake! I'm not sad about this schedule - just realizing if I don't share some photos today, I may not share any for another week.

A cruising post! We had a blast exploring some of our favorite spots on the Southern Potomac over Labor Day weekend.

Check out this post and let us know what you think. If you haven't been boating on the lower Potomac, you're missing out! It's like the Western Chesapeake Bay ;)

2025 Labor Day Cruise
Skipped a week of photo updates because a long weekend of cruising beckoned. And when a cruising weekend approaches you heed the call. Day 1: Washington, D.C. to Port Tobacco On a lovely Thursday morning, Linda and I dropped lines shortly after 8am. The water was nearly still with a light breeze out of the south. Our destination was Port Tobacco near Chapel Point.
