"This is a book that holds both sides of your face gently, looks you squarely in the eye, and says “we will get through this. Together.” And it means it.

Now, more than ever, that’s what we need."

Thanks, Paul. And thanks for the signal-boost earlier today! Much appreciated.
Happy Bookday to @maryrobinettekowal.com and @sentencebender.bsky.social as well! Their double book Apprehension/Red Star Hustle is out today.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this book happen, including my agent Joshua, editor Navah, and my wife Jen, who came up with the title.

Thanks also to everyone who said nice things, like author @julieczerneda.bsky.social, who called it, "An instant classic and most highly recommended!"
This one has gotten a good amount of early buzz. People seem especially fond of Squidward, the cat on the cover.

The audio book will be available in mid-December.

I’ll be signing at Kazoo Books in Kalamazoo this Saturday at 1 p.m. and at Schuler Books in Okemos on Nov. 22 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
It's Publication Day for SLAYERS OF OLD!!!

From @dawbooks.bsky.social's official description: "Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Golden Girls in this humorous contemporary standalone fantasy about a group of former Chosen Ones coming out of retirement to save the world one last time."

As Seen in Print!

It's a double @jimchines.com feature in this week's issue of Publishers Weekly — both KITEMASTER (published 5/27/25) and SLAYERS OF OLD (forthcoming 10/21/25) get some time in the print spotlight!
Typo of the day. Poor Ebony is pretty scared but trying to hide it. At least, that's what I *intended* to write...

Laumphet's huge brown eyes rolled upward. “My wisdom is infinite. My patience is not.”
“Your arrogance is infinite,” Ebony muttered, trying to hide her rear with attitude.

I only got up for a minute. This is what I came back to.

This cat has some Opinions about my writing.

Random first-draft line from UNCHOSEN ONES:

“That’s a lot of magical technobabble,” Sebastian said dubiously. “Are you sure you can make it believable in the final draft?”
Butterfly update. Wings are still curled and will probably stay that way, from what we’ve read. But it has feasted on a lump of juicy strawberry, along with some sugar water, and it is much more energetic today.
Sitting here eating my lunch when Jen walks in and says, “Hold this.”

Apparently we’re doing butterfly urgent care now.

(Not asking for advice. Just sharing the randomness of my day.)
Oh, sweet!!! Check out the cover of the August 2025 issue of Library Journal!
I like "internet" as a verb here, actually.
Quarterly taxes are done.

I feel like I need a shower after clicking Send on the federal ones...
"We wanted to do a marketing tie-in for the Fantastic Four movie."

"Go on."

"We designed new movie-themed skins for your Minecraft character."

"Sounds good."

"We'll put ads all over the internet promoting our new Fantastic Four s--"

"STOP!!!"
