Shadows and contrast

Inspired by a photo I took last time I was at the Mendocino Coast Botanic Garden. If you find yourself in that neck of the woods, it's a hidden gem.

You'll be glad to know skate rinks are basically unchanged since the early 90s.

Except a lot more Taylor Swift.
My son is at rehearsal, and I'm enjoying a sunny afternoon before the rain starts tomorrow with my book club book for the month, "The Dream Hotel," by Laila Lalami.

When the world is spinning out of control, it helps to draw lots of little lines.

Bonus, I got to try out some new supplies that I found on sale a few weeks ago.

If you live in Sacramento and you don't go to Apple Hill ... is it really fall?

Inspired by my weekend.

Card making, inspired by an Ellen Crimini-Trent tutorial (hers were Mothers Day Cards, these have been repurposed into all-purpose cards)

More fall, different style. This time with gouache.

Thank you @watercolourmentor for the loose mountain river tutorial on YouTube!

I love painting landscapes, but struggle to "edit" out the details, which can make for a muddy mess. This was good practice!

Fishy doodles on a Sunday afternoon.

Thanks to @andrea.nelson.art for the idea to find coloring pages online to get unstuck when the blank page was too much for my brain.

The Waters by Bonnie Jo Campbell was our bookclub book this month. I loved it. A mystic, meandering journey through life, death, childhood, motherhood.

Interestingly, our group was split, my feelings were not unanimous. So take my recommendation with a grain of salt.

Put this one in the "did not finish" pile. Unfortunately, it fell into the "could have been an article instead of a full book" category that a lot of nonfiction seems to find itself in.

Read this with a family member. A bit of a change from what I'd been reading, but unfortunately it was timely.

If you're tracking this current administration and lost at what to do, I'd recommend it. It was tough but I feel better armed for the days to come.

Little Women is another book that grows with you. I identify with a different sister every time I read it.
I've read the Handmaid's Tale 3 or 4 times. As a teen, in my 20s, as a mom in my late 30s. It feels like a different book every time I read it, based on where I am in my life.
